Michael, believe it or not, sometimes surfaces that give, tend to cause additional damage because they not only give, but they also spring back and cause torque in the opposite/random directions. The body has evolved to tense up and essentially become its own shock absorber for falls, when you have a surface that delays the shock/spreads it - the body will release tension halfway through the impact and then the torque will jar the body causing further damage. this is why martial artists either use very thin hard pads or canvas (with minimal give), that really do not provide anything more than a way to protect against lesions. The only reason I made my initial comment is because this surf contraption appears to be the perfect storm for back/neck injury, in my humble opinion.

I wouldn't go as far as to say pro lol, but he's good. most board sports aren't too hard to cross over with. odds are, if you can skate, you won't have too much trouble skim/wake/surf/snowboarding. although, as someone who is mediocre at all of them, surfing is probably the hardest to learn at first and these wave machines are way less forgiving than actual waves if your balance is off a little bit. Casey's in incredible shape, so I'm sure he has an easier time picking up new skills than most of us.
