Cash is King. I use it all the time. Who wants to be tracked and traced everywhere they go??

Want to know what a cashless society would look like? Ask the customers of Westpac who couldn't use their bank cards to pay for anything or access their accounts or when they did, they found their accounts had been wiped due to some still-unknown glitch. It's no secret that upcoming digital currencies will be linked to a digital I.D in a manner similar to Chinas social credit score. If you've been "naughty" then your ability to spend your digital money will be curtailed or even revoked. Use cash to support your local businesses, especially the small ones.

I recommend that everyone takes cash out every week and uses it to pay for things. Even if you don't use it to pay for 100% of what you're buying, it sends a sign to companies that customers still want to use cash. The worst thing imaginable would be for us to become a cashless society.

Anyone who lived through major events (ChCh earthquakes, North Island major storms, lengthy power outages for any reason) knows that cash is the only thing that still works without power... If the interviewer had asked me "when was the last time you used cash" my answer would have been "this afternoon"! Many older people still use cash in the main. Until we have uninterruptable power, can't see a near future without cash myself...

I think most people don’t use cash now days due to convenience and online purchasing. But I think what most people fear is what is known as a retail CDBC. Which is a centralised digital bank currency where your account is controlled and monitored by the reserve bank. This can be linked to carbon credits, digital passports, social credit scoring, and tokenisation of all assets in a programmable manner. Potentially a CDBC could be used in a dystopian way to control one’s population. This is where laws would have to be put in place to prevent and protect the public.

Here in Gisborne during cyclone Gabriel when we lost internet access the only thing people could use was cash. Cash will always be needed.

If they want a cashless society, then there should be no fees chargeable. Cash does not incur extra fees. So cashless must be the same.

Gen X here even now I pay (give people any left over change) mostly by cash instead of the countless bank fees, but it is bound to happen look at Thomas Jordan (Swiss national bank) on Central Bank Digital Currency, says consumers / businesses already have access to a wide range of effective / innovative payment instruments offered by the private sector. Retail CBDC could fundamentally change monetary system and the role of the Central / Commercial banks, with far reaching consequences (inteferring in every aspect of an individuals life). Thomas saying these risks far outweigh any potential benefit. Only for a wholesale CBDC but no Retail (but that will happen by the Luxury Belief religous system where all lower class people are at the mercy to the political / money elite who are shielded from any consequences.

I have a family member who works in a bank way "upstairs" and the banks have been in this process of making the country cashless for along time, its not hard to see the downgrading of support services and Banks is a ploy happening everywhere to get people to use cards as its "much easier" for everyone as they make personal banking so hard for everyone

I wonder though which method people find more secure, and whether people trust digital payment methods, and which method people find more convenient. I think Covid played a huge part in getting people to use digital payments, I wonder how much has sustained taking into account high pay wave costs.
