When you showed the Casio 4000p, my mind flooded with fond memories. I loved programing it back in the day.

Yeah they are quite different but i always think of the fx-602p as Casios equivalent to the 41C and the fx-4000p as the equivalent to the 42S, its a great calculator.

@@CalculatorCulture I have owned so many calculators in my life. I love math and programing. The HP 11c put me through Navy Nuclear Power Schools back in 89-91 I have owned so many. Right now I only have the Ti-89, the Ti-89 titanium, HP 33S, the Hp Prime G2. My all time favorite calculator was the HP-48SX.

Thank you for this review of that classic of Casio Scientific Calculators. The flex ribbon for display of mine was partially desoldered making some missing lines on the screen. I've re-soldered it carefully as it is more than 30 years old and now all the rows are back.

I got this calculator second hand, and I am using it on a daily basis with my custom programs. At first it was hard to read the key labels but after some time, I almost memorize the key positions. Very compact and yet powerful machine.

My fx-4500P was purchased in 04/11/94 for A$59.50 (50% off). It still works.

I paid Fl. 99,- Dutch guilders in 1992, which was around A$66.- back in those days. It was discounter from Fl. 199,- Funny how one remembers such details as a young guy 😄

great calculator the Casio 4500P ( dot matrix lcd ) - I still use mine, Has my surveying programs loaded for co-ordinates and curves setout. Yes, the display has issues - sometimes light pressure in the top RHS corner will make the screen easier to view

The fx-4500P uses a cr1216 for back-up and a cr2025 for main power. I used my fx-4500P during technical college in the early nineties.

Can you host a virtual museum? A suggestion: When the camera is recording just one calculator, can you change to portrait view? The keys and display will be clearer. (Also, I suggest that you not open the back covers because the flat ribbon cable connecting the PCB to the LCD can be very delicate, and if it peels off there is no way to join it again easily (unless you know some method)).

Currently I shoot and upload the videos at 1080P, I should move to 4k at some point.
@Crazytesseract

@@CalculatorCulture No, 1080p is quite good. Portrait view would enhance the calculator view because of the aspect ratio.

I'm not really exactly sure what you are saying to be honest. Videos on KZfaq are either in horizontal or vertical format, you can't switch in the middle. 1080p is a landscape video format that is 1920x1080 pixels. I could film sections in portrait on my camera, and add sidebars during editing but they'll still be 1920x1080 with the same amount of detail and they would have ugly sidebars. I could switch the entire videos to a vertical video format and there would be more detail, but vertical videos are just not common on KZfaq for long form videos that a lot of people will watch on a TV or computer.

@@CalculatorCulture I meant your second option, but as you say people prefer to watch on TV.

I have one (bought myself around 1989) as well. Must be around 1995 on a usa trip, I found its twin a "Radio Shaek CAT.NO.65-993 MODEL NO.EC-4026" for cheap (10$?). The RS has a bit different color scheme, but still black/grey. Both work fine till today, though not sure when I used them the last time, besides now powering it up and checking that the battery is still alive ;-) I find their design has aged very well. It still looks great and modern to me and not like 35 years old. ;-) (I just googled to see what images would show up searching for 1989 (in that order): Taylor Swift and Tiananmen Square, ...)

Around the year 1994 I had this calculator and the 5500 model as well.
@Shahram19702010
@Shahram19702010 8 ай бұрын
Which one was better? The 5500 model can only store 127 steps for each file therefore force you to program smaller files but 4500 model can have a huge file to max capacity (1103 steps).

Mine uses a CR 2025 battery (with space for a backup) and a CR 1216, that last battery was not easy to find at all.

Great video! 😊 Quick question: what are the differences between an fx-5500L and an fx-5500LA? 😳
@CalculatorCulture
@CalculatorCulture 2 жыл бұрын
I would guess the fx-5500LA is the low power version of the fx-5500L, like the fx-4500PA is to the fx-4500P.
