Lovely looking keyboard this one.....good job Casio..............like that demo Kats at the start - very Stevie Wonderish....... Can't make my mind up about the piano on this keyboard from the demos.....people say it's good....for the money. That electric piano sound was really weird! Not like a Rhodes. The Wurli is good.

They made several legendary great synthesizers in the 80s. They actually have some experience with synthesizers. And their Privia line of digital pianos was always very good for the money, but they really stepped up their game recently.

I’ve had a lot of pianos and keyboards stolen from over the years. I like Casio because it’s has the layering and classic instruments down pretty well like organs and pianos, basses and what have you. But it typically has kind of chintzy sounding orchestrations. Casio is more gadgety than say Yamaha. Yamaha has some better sound simulations that can be layered but less gadgetry in playing around with it. I really like the feel of the textured keys. This is worth it to have for just that. I use apps and amplification to get the sound to my preference. I can’t find a Casio out if the box that has bass treble midrange espérâtes sound controls which can make a huge difference, so I am strapped to apps as a resort because with all the gadgetry, they can’t figure out how to put it in the console. Maybe this has some midi draw bars which is great. I prefer a lush sound over all the kids stuff they call pro. I guess because it’s for performing live shows, but for that I’ve heard much better as a working performer. What’s great is one can program their presets for their shows and not skip a beat, but there are plenty of keyboards out there that do that without sounding cartoonish. Otherwise I love it

Have to dismiss all the brand loyalist naysayers here. I have a Korg Kronos and M3 that are obviously superior to this Casio as far as internal sounds but this Casio would make a great midi controller, at much less cost than other offerings from Korg, Roland and Yamaha! Plus the internal sounds are more than competent and would make a great supplement to other keyboard rigs. Some of the ego-centric posters here need to take a vacation and look at the real world. Different strokes for different folks. But don't throw the baby out with the bathwater for the sake of brand-myopic blindness. Hell...the onboard USB midi music file player is almost worth the price of admission here for live playing scenarios!

Including the Roland A-88 88-key hammer action MIDI controller? I'm researching MIDI controllers this week as I need a replacement for my M-Audio Keystation Pro 88.
@Goettel
@Goettel 8 жыл бұрын
MikeRoePhonicsMusic I didn't try the A-88, since I wanted a self-contained instrument, but I tried several Roland piano's in the same price range as the PX5s (don't remember specific types though). As with any musical instrument, really the only way to make a choice is play them both, and anything you can. Technically though, the PX5-S should beat the A-88 (triple sensors, 14-bit instead of 8-bit velocity resolution).
@cosmic_gate476
@cosmic_gate476 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, the PX-5s beats the A88 - I've played both. The only thing you may want to mind is the texturing on the keys, it gives an ivory/ebony feel which is great for piano playing but idk how it is for playing other stuff in VSTs

It's ugly in every sense! in the old days the CZ series was more "Pro" designed, starting the look.. perhaps, this is good piece of entertainment or a serious keyboard, but still, is very plastic and ugly... of course, this is my opinion, my taste.. nothing more. ;)

It is...and will be forever, a "Casio". C'mon, one fingered chords with drums? That's 1980s shopping mall organ stuff. And look at the control layout: Almost half of the row of buttons have to do with start-stop-record-tracks, etc----stuff that has no place in live performing. This might be a huge step-up for Casio in terms of creatively emulating the touch and look of a real piano, plus giving us 88 keys in a reasonably lightweight case for gigging, but to compare this to proven professional boards from Kurzweil, Nord, even Yamaha's non-consumer level stuff is a stretch.

@MotownRockinroller
@MotownRockinroller 9 жыл бұрын
Damon McMahon Of course. I'd never make a judgment on a piece of equipment that I never played. I bought one of these about a month ago after being disappointed with Kurzweil's Artis SE stage piano. I've owned and/or played most of the last 10 years' worth of "professional" keyboards. The PX-5s was my first foray into a more "consumer level" keyboard, although the comments and reviews that preceded my purchase certainly leaned toward a glowing perception of this as being at least "semi professional" grade. My ownership lasted all of two weeks, during which time I diligently poured through every aspect of the board--every sound, every shape and adjustment parameter, even choice downloads from the Casio forum site for this board, and it continued to come up short as a truly professional board. To each his own, I suppose, but as a professional keyboardist for many years, I had so wanted the PX-5s to be one of my (2) main gigging boards. It just didn't cut it.
@DMcOz_Down_Under
@DMcOz_Down_Under 9 жыл бұрын
MotownRockinroller As you say, to each their own. At least you provided slightly more rounded reasonings for your opinions in your second post. I'm one of a big number of professional keyboardists choosing the PX5S as their main gigging board (both stage and studio use) in place of the "professional" keyboards you mention. And cuts it, very well. Yes, admittedly to the surprise and often delight of many previously dismissive professionals.

At this price point the Px5s is superior to any other stage piano on the market, even to date. I've played all of the big name $1,000 keyboards/stage pianos/workstations and this 1 beats them all. It's not meant to compete with the Montage, Krome or RD 2000. It's meant to compete with the MX88, Kross and Juno and it beats them hands down.

Good taste is missing in these days! :( Roland RD line is far superior to any Casio.. and I say "ANY" Motif is a CasioKiller!! and Nord & Kurzweil... simply cannot be compared to this keyboard. CLAPS to Casio.for the improvements! but still.. there´s a couple miles to run till catching up with the bigger leagues!
@gebauzchris
@gebauzchris 9 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but you should compare this not to the Motif, but rather to the MM series (which is motif-derived), and then this piano actually fares extremely well. It easily matches any Korg/Roland/Yamaha stage piano up to 1500USD/EUR at half the price. Not to mention, it just has an excellent keybed with awesome action! Tell me another 900USD/EUR range stage piano with such great synthesis potential (and great pianos to boot), with such an excellent keybed/action! You won't find any from the three "big brands"!

I appreciate your comment, and it is defenitely respetable, but I won't agree with you; though I will visit my Casio local dealer for playing it, I'd not change my boards for a Casio.. no way! and just to mention, key bed, the touch and how stiff the keys might be.. all of these are such personal appreciation or individual taste, thus, my kurz.piano feels so good to me.. better than any Korg or Yamaha.. it'd be comparable to Nord and stop counting.. but, as I said, I do respect your opinion and taste, hopefully, you'll return the courtesy.. greetings! ;)
@gebauzchris
@gebauzchris 9 жыл бұрын
miguel rejas I respect your opinion as long as it is formed in a fair manner. I'm just saying I don't appreciate prejudices, and I think all the negative sentiments towards Casio I've read are just that: prejudices. It really is that good. Though the Kurzweils you mentioned have also great price/performance ratios, and I of course agree: in the end it's what feels good to each one individually! I'm just saying, don't dismiss Casio just because of its reputation. They've done some truly great things in each of the categories they've dabbled in, besides all the cheap toy stuff - they had some legendary synths, they even had some really awesome digital cameras (Z750/Z850) during a time when Casio Ixus were still mediocre. I think being an "underdog" in musical instruments actually lets them create some really innovative stuff, at great price points.
