The Casio Royale AE1200 is a watch I didn't pay any attention to..for a long time. I decided to see what the all hub-bub was about and as it turned out, it's probably the best contender for a feature rich watch under $50. The Royale is an EVERYDAY watch, no doubt about it. It does all the basics of a digital extremely well. While that is the case, for not much $$, you can significantly upgrade this Casio into a G-Shock or my personal favorite, the Casio Pathfinder Triple Sensor. Do you have one? What do you think?

I have both of those watches. My 5610 is my nearly everyday piece. It's a glorious tank. The 1200 has a much better back light and I like the overall dial look to it. It's gets plenty of wrist time. If the 1200 had atomic time monitoring, I would retire the 5610 to my watch box more often. You can't go wrong with any CASIO watch.

I agree wholeheartedly. The Atomic Timekeeping is a huge piece tech that very useful. I would add the tough solar is the the other...but then again, that is the 5610u. Thanks for watching. Have a great week.

@@Realidealgear I think that the DATE & TIME on this CASIO AE1200 watch should be a larger size. There is some wasted real estate space on this watch. The DATE and TIME on the CASIO model W96H-1BV is a much larger size. I can see the TIME on it easily from 1 meter away ! The CASIO W96H-1BV is my favorite digital watch because it shows the TIME, DATE, DAY and YEAR all on the face without having to push any buttons for selection. You look at this watch and it shows everything all at once.... though the CASIO AE1200 watch is better when traveling to different countries. I do like the CASIO AE1200 and decided to buy one because of it's many features. I am going to modify it with the all metal SKXmod company watch kit.

I got my AE1200 just like this one here in June of 2017. It was my go-to watch for a few years until I got some other pieces, and then it just became my beater watch, but you can't deny the value of this thing. It's like that old truck that never lets you down. Yes you can't wear it when you want to make an impression but it is what it is. Mine has collected its fair share of scratches over the years, but you can buff it out unless it's a deep scratch (and mine has some of those). You don't even need Polywatch compound to do it; I just use gel toothpaste and it works well with a piece of cloth, plus it's non-toxic and perfectly safe. Anyway, I'm getting something like -5 seconds/month, but it's been many years since I checked it.
@Realidealgear
@Realidealgear Жыл бұрын
Agreed. It has a purpose. I remind myself that single watch can't cover all situations. Thank you for your comment.
@yogiyoda
@yogiyoda Жыл бұрын
It has an acrylic screen ...not mineral crystal. Most scratches can be buffed out with PolyWatch. It does not come with a metal case. There is a version with a metal band but the case is just resin painted grey/silver. Also, the the accuracy on your model is highly unusual and just barely fits in tolerance of +/- 30 seconds per month. Most are much more accurate

You can buy a tempered glass film screen protector for the ae1200 cheapsies that does a good job of preventing minor scratches, and if it does get scratched you should have at least 2 more in the pack you can reapply. They're also thin enough that you almost don't notice you have them on in the first place.

Bought two of them. And then on eBay I got custom strap adapters to allow 20mm straps, and got high quality NATO G-10 straps. I also got custom screen protectors to give more protection to the screen. Can’t even tell they are on. I’m very happy. My watches are only off about 8 seconds a month. Maybe you got one that slipped past Quality Control. Great watches for traveling in the world. Wear one, have another one for a spare. 👏🏼👍🏼👏🏼👍🏼😃

I have worn the AE-1200WH 24/7 continuously for the past 5 months. This includes hammering and wrenching on my farm machinery, welding, painting , shooting IDPA, and other vigorous arm motion activity. Swimming, showering, and plunging the watch into buckets of soapy, greasy cleaning solutions are daily actions. I have forgotten it is even there other than compulsively checking the time without realizing I am doing it. The smaller screen details are too small for my old eyes in dim light. OK in bright light. It appears to lose 1 second per month. I give it a 9.9 rating.

I have several versions of the world time, my favorite being the AE-1400 WH. I like the separate light button on the 1400. Its not a square, but I like the way the 1400 watch feels on wrist. I also recently picked up a W737 with the extra long band at Walmart for $22 and think it may be the best value in a Casio square.

Two things: The AE1200 has a plastic crystal and the smalog display always shows home time (T1) and not a second time zone. All time zones can be displayed by city in the digital display and in addition to home time (T1) you have two quick acess time zones as T2 and T3 that you can flip through with the Search button.

my opinion - atomic timekeeping is cool to let the watch sync at night, even though you have to go out of your way to sit it somewhere to get a signal. As for the solar charge - mostly worthless - A watch with a 10 year battery, if bought new, will last almost as long as the solar cell in a "tough solar" Gshock in my opinion. Why have to leave it out in the sun or at a light source? A long life battery is more convenient.
@Realidealgear
@Realidealgear 3 ай бұрын
...up until the long life battery needs to be changed. I've yet to change the battery in my Casio Triple Sensor Pathfinder 200T and it's close to 20 years old. To be fair, the previous Pathfinder I had broke before hitting year 10. For watches that get used hard or moderately hard, your point of a 10 year battery is probably more than sufficient. For the casual wear or low impact use, the solar watch and battery would likely outlast the 10 year battery. This is probably splitting hairs either way. Thanks for the comment and watching. Have a great weekend.

Great video but I'm not convinced. I have gshock B 5000 solar power and radio control. I think is way better and more reliable. Tim I'd like to know what do you think about Garmin smartwatches.
@Realidealgear
@Realidealgear 8 ай бұрын
Garmin make incredible smart watches. I know they're popular in the military (certain NVG compatible versions). I've never owned a Garmin. I do have a Casio WSD F30 and I didn't like the constant charging and that with a proprietary Casio charging cord. I struggle with smart watches because of the almost daily charging for power when the full potential of the watch is in use. If the full potential is not in use, saving battery power for weeks of normal watch use, then I question why spend the money on a watch that isn't used to it's fullest, needs to be charged regularly (and typically with a proprietary cord/base), and requires software updates or else buying the latest version. That logic is true even with Casio watches, automatic watches...all of them rely upon technology. I draw the line on the seemingly highly dependent technology (power sources, satellite signals, etc.). I do use my smart phone for directions to locations...but in the end, everyone should have a map and skills to use a map. Longwinded response but I try to seek a balance of technology and reasonably, simplistic independence.

For an all around AND outdoor watch with tough solar, 100m WR, great light and lumed hands/markers, Ani-digi display, and all the favorite modes: timer, alarms, stw, dual time....its a VERY good choice. Non Casio: Mechanical/Auto/Manual wind....I'm field style watch nut. I really like the Kingsbury MS4 Regiment or the Nodus Sector Pilot Blackbird.
