I saw your review after ordering the CT-S300, after watching several other reviews. Yours is the most thorough. Just had to convince myself that I'd made the right choice, so thank you for validating all my concerns.

There is the Casiotone CTS-400 recently out I haven't tried that one yet (although I do own a CTS-1 which is awesome - no rhythms or anything and only a few voices but they are amazing). Agree about upgrading to fully weighted keys. I bought the CTS-300 to start with then 12 months later bought a Yamaha P-515. I use the Casio on the desk with Playground Sessions then move over to the Yamaha to practice on the 'real' piano. Also agree about the insanely good value for money this keyboard represents. Great review.

Thanks so much glad you liked the review! Wow P-515! That is an amazing instrument; wooden keys and some fantastic piano samples. How do you like Playground Sessions? I haven’t had a chance to look at that one yet.

@@PianoTone Playground Sessions is what is keeping me motivated to continue learning. I bought a life time subscription which has let me leave and return to it at will. Buying the P-515 was a great motivator as well. I just hope the wife never finds out how much it really cost. :)

Depending on whether the rhythms and accompaniment are important to you, you might also want to check out my review on the Casiotone CT-S1: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fd5xdah2xs7eZYU.html The CT-S1 has the newer (AiX) sound chip, but it has no rhythm or accompaniment feature. Thank you for the review. I have bought one on Black Friday sale, for 178 dollars. As a person with cerebral palsy with diminished dexterity of fingers, playing this instrument will be quite challenging, so it also will serve as a therapeutic tool to me

I bought this keyboard because I’m a music teacher and I have to go to each classroom. We’re working on compositions based on chord progressions. Thanks for showing the bass/piano split option. That will be handy (they aren’t writing bass parts yet, but I can give them an idea how it would sound). I want to be able to figure out how to enter a few chord progressions in different keys so I can play those along with the melody they’re working on). I just don’t have much time to figure this all out 😢

Hi there! You can’t enter chord progressions and have them playback, you have to trigger the accompaniment live with your left hand while you play melody on your right. There is no onboard recording available, so you if you wanted to quickly replay them you would need to record yourself playing the chord progressions ahead of time and then replay them as needed on a phone, iPad etc. Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe

@@PianoTone thank you! I saw a tiny bit about cute progressions in the skimpy get started guide, and it seemed like you could input them and have them loop. Or maybe I was wishful thinking when reading 😀 there a LOT to learn with this keyboard!

How did you play strings and piano at the same time? You said that it doesn't have such a feature, or it has? (I mean spliting the keyboard)

There is a pre-layered strings and piano voice, and there is a pre split bass and piano voice (so it's just a single voice, but they've layered and split it for you ;) Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe

Are the layer and split options available in this model?

Hi there! No you cannot layer or split voices on the CT-S300; there are some included “pre-layered” and “pre-split” sounds including piano/synth/harpsichord over strings, and there is a split with bass in the left and piano in the right. The CT-S1 allows layering, but does not allow splitting (there is a good pre-split piano over bass). The CT-S400 and CT-S500 do allow layering and splits. What is the best setting I should keep to make it sound more close to an actual piano?

I personally liked the light sensitivity and stadium 1 reverb you played. Can you tell which piano you were playing in that demo part at 14:37

I dont remember if you mentioned it or not, but doest it have semi-weighted keys ?

No they’re not semi-weighted, they are synth action. So they’re much lighter to play - they have a nice textured finish, and when compared to other synth action keys they feel pretty good (not flimsy or cheap feeling); but nothing like a piano though

Hi .. I was almost going to buy cts300 but I got to know there are some new models coming very soon in the series which has the Casio's Aix sound chip ... And considering they are a part of casiotone series im hoping the price for those would be in the same range as cts200,300,100 so what do you think should I wait for them ...

Yes there are 3 new models - CTS400 (I think around $230USD) is the upgraded version of the CTS300 with the better sound chip, better action and better menu - it is more $$$. There is also a CTS-1 (around $200USD) which I have actually ordered - it’s not an arranger (no rhythms) , and only has 60 or so sounds but is very unique - it has some very unique pre-DSP effected/pre layered sounds that the CTS400 does not have. Some of these have very cool dynamic effects - like a piano over pad or guitar over pad where you only hear the pad if you play and hold a chord - if you play a melody / solo in the right you only hear the main voice. Very cool I will do a review once I get it. The other new model is the LKS450 which is a new version of the lighted keys keyboard. Up to you if you want to wait and spend the additional $ - the voices and action and menu are much improved.

You can set a pedal to be sustain, soft, sostenudo (the 3 piano pedal types) or to start/stop rhythms but not volume. Hope that helps, thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe

Hi there! The CT-S300 cannot layer or split, but there are some built in prelayered (piano/synth/harp over strings) and pre split piano over bass. I’ve never tried a CTX700, but from what I have seen it has higher quality sounds, and a few more features, but is a bit more expensive and not as portable. Either one is great for beginners; if portability is important maybe the CTS300, if not and you are ok with spending a bit more then the CTX700

But I feel I should not have purchased this keyboard since the display does not light up and impossible to use it in the night without a proper light focused on the display board. Very sad.

Good review, but this has been out a long time and for the extra price, the Casio CT-S400 is now out at $230 and better in almst everyway. So much worth the extra money.

Yes I’m excited to see those - about $80 USD more than the CTS300 and has the higher quality sound chip. Be interesting to see if the 400 is worth the extra $ over the older CTX700 which also had the newer sound chip. I’m also excited about the CTS-1; no arranger functions but some very unique and high quality sounds with predone DSP effects - I’ll be reviewing that one as soon as mine arrives :) Thanks for visiting the channel!

@@PianoTone Yes, the CT-S1 is great, too. Just less voices, no pitch ben wheel and other functions, but both can save much more registration settings and a lot more.

Yes the 400 is the one to get if you want to use arranger functions- the CTS-1 has less sounds but also has sounds not found on the 400; some have unique articulation too - like a piano over pad where you only hear the pad if you play a 3 note chord; if you play just a melody, no pad - they all sound really cool!

@@PianoTone I heard about the 3 note chord with the pad, and the 4 voice categories on the CT-S1, but was not sure the voices were not wothin the 400 voices of the CT-S400, just not categoried the same. I plan to get both, but may get the CT-S1 first, and sell my Roland Go:Keys to my friend when I get the CT-S400. I also have a Roland JD-Xi. We recently got a Casio CDP-S350 at church that I can play with and use. I wanted to get a Roland VR Combo VR-09 or RD 88 later, but may not need it with these two Casio keyboards. They sound great. I might also get a Yamaha Reface CP fir the compact portability and effects features.

There are some pre DSP effected sounds that are unique to the CTS-1 (not on the 400) - if you go to Casio’s website and download the manuals for each you can compare the voice lists. It’s these sounds I’m really interested in that’s why I chose the CTS-1. Still waiting on it though ......
