I feel like I have to add my two cents to the part about lanyards... They're used by WAY more units than just DEVGRU. Like literally any SOF unit that uses helicopters, which brings me to my next point. Lanyards are never used to drag wounded soldiers, it just doesn't work that well. They're used to hook into a helicopter in case you fall out so you don't fall to your death. If you want to drag somebody, just grab their plate carrier (or even better a DARC strap)

I knew at the start the carbiner was likely for dragging incapacitated comrades, but the reasoning for the red dot is pretty brilliant and well articulated in this video.

Back in the 1990s or earlier the Punisher stated much the same. He said that the purpose of the skull on his chest wasn't just for intimidation but to draw the enemy's fire into his thickest armor and away from his unprotected head. Some old castles used uneven cross elements in their archer loopholes. These had a long vertical center with a cross piece on either side. These were vertically offset by a number of inches. The idea was that that if an enemy was taking aim on the loophole, the offset would cause a kind of confusion and maybe throw off their aim where a proper cross would provide an aimpoint. So, those marking on the edges of those shields could serve a similar purpose, multiple bright targets to confuse the shooter. Likewise their pointing inward would draw the eye toward the point and center of the shield.

I always think about my greatest fears from the point of view of the other guy especially in high violence situations.. A mindset of "what's the most nightmarish thing I could face".. Long narrow hallways would rate extremely high during a raid.. But the true nightmare would be not facing a weapon firing upon me from the end of the corridor, but to discover the corridor is the weapon I face. To discover the corridor is actually just a long sealed tank I cannot easily escape, and something horrifying happens in the corridor.. Like it is mostly airtight and is suddenly flooding with inert gas and displacing all oxygen. That's like drowning but you cannot see it. Or suddenly a sprinkler deploys, but instead of water it's some type of liquid fuel, and suddenly a flare flies into the trap. I always saw breaching a building that's been in an enemies control for an extended length of time an EXTREMELY dangerous idea. People, especially people of experienced violence understand many things can be turned into unexpectedly effective weapons. And in a violent encounter, suprises usually go very badly for the surprised.

lots of law enforcement departments have uniform rules that follow a similar mindset, where officers can't wear white undershirts. It took me a millisecond to figure out why! Your mind/eyes will instantly gravitate to the "Red target" as the shooter. Also the carabiner we used to attach to the wounded and drag with our body, while still able to shoot. The "dragee" and 2nd man can shoot, while the 3rd man stablizes man 2. In some instances, the 3rd man (5 man team) is the shot-caller of the op (so entire team hears vs just 2-3).

I can't speak to why FSB operators do what they do, but Navy SEAL's in DEVGRU and other US SOF don't use the lanyard you pointed to for dragging wounded comrades into safety (I suppose it COULD be used that way, but IMHO would be terrible at that since it's made of a bungee material). It's for securing the operator into a helicopter. It's a safety lanyard.

Also the carabiner is for when you are stacked it’s a safe place to hold and it’s for evacuation.

Informative. Interesting. Works great until they start blinding each other with the strobes, flashbangs, and red circles, I suppose. These aren't Grunts, though. First thing that gets tossed in the Infantry is the stupid stuff and trimmings. Try humping that stuff for miles and miles and days and days. Ounces = pounds and pounds = PAIN.

I love the idea of the strobe lights attached to the shield, most SWAT type situations happen in close environments, not in open fields, so it makes perfect sense to overload their senses, I don't know much about how common are organized shootings in Russia, my impression is that it was going down since the turn of the millennium, but with the possibility of the Special Military Operation extending into its third spring-summer there's a good chance of foreign and domestic elements start some kind of behind enemy lines operations, recon, sabotage and such.

The Aussies have a crude but effective gadget for recovering wounded men not far from the trench!! A 12 ft rope or longer on a 12 inch x 2 inch stick, tied @ the center and rolled up to keep it small and lite. You throw the stick whilst holding one end towards a wounded soldier who tucks it under their belt and towed back into the trench! WW1 era.

I'm fairly certain that an empty carabiner is fixed and used on troops' body armor whenever possible almost worldwide for evacuation in case of injury or (god forbid) death. Otherwise pretty nice video, though I do know a thing or two about FSB. Another little correction: FSB does not do espionage/reconnaissance (unless required to achieve their goals), that's the jurisdiction of GRU, which is all about reconnaissance. FSB's main purpose is fighting terrorist threats and/or counter-espionage. Rule of thumb: if something is a concern for national security, it's probably within FSB's zone of responsibility; most things within Russia (for which regular police force won't suffice) is the responsibility of FSB, most things outside Russia are the responsibility of GRU; KGB was mostly concerned with harassing politically divergent regular citizens, though they were in fact involved in counter-terrorism.

For the record, the lanyard on the gun belts of US forces aren't for dragging casualties, they're for retention. You secure them to the deck of a helos, truck turrets, or boats so you don't fall out.

Mate, Oxide is not an FSB operator, he's a US army cadet, iirc, and the landyard is not to pull someone wounded, is to save someone who falls from a vehicle. The lanyard's carabiner is attached to multiple points that already exist on the structure of vehicles.
