Here is a showcase and the story behind all of TF2's items that are in some way connected to past or ongoing charity events. A lot of these are in the form of badges and medals that players can earn by either donating to or being a part of a TF2 charity event. Some of these are rare and expensive hats created by Valve themselves to raise funds for a country and need. And some are amongst the most "controversial" and rare items in all of Team Fortress history, but of course with a happy ending raising thousands of dollars for charity along the way.

A heartwarming video that had me smiling the whole way through. Thank you for that. I may not have been aware of all of these events, but knowing that they happened and that they still persist to this day makes me happy for being part of the TF2 community. The game may not be as updated like it once was, but we're still here and still going strong. Here's to many more years, fellow mercs.

For anyone curious about how the golden wrenches weren't TRUELY random: The advertised mechanism for obtaining these wrenches was, WHENEVER you crafted any item in game, there was a small chance to instead obtain one of the 100 golden wrenches. This is only technically true. The ACTUAL mechanic was, over the course of a couple weeks, while awaiting the Engineer update, there were hidden VALVe-known times that triggered the very NEXT item to be crafted, to become a golden wrench. This meant, you could craft 1million items, and not obtain a wrench, but a person who crafted a single item immediately at or after that hidden time, would obtain a wrench. The problem was, an insider at VALVe obtained a list of the times remaining, when the wrenches would be distributed part way through the event. This is what left a sour taste about the wrenches in everyone's mouths, knowing that the event was not in-fact random.

Oddly enough you can still get Jingle Jam items. A nice person gave me two Jingle Jam codes for the 2014 and 2015 items and they still worked.

I've always, ALWAYS wanted a Humanitarian's Hachimaki, but I was just too late. I've managed to find ways to get a few other untradable items, but the HH is completely unavailable. It's so unavailable that even if you found a game-breaking bug long ago, which would allow one to receive ANY hat with ANY unusual effect, you could not get any of the Japan charity items. You could literally get the wiki cap and lofi long wave from that (until that became a controversy).

@@danielsurvivor1372 Buying and playing poker nights 1 and 2 gives some cool items like the Bloodhound and lugermorph. You can find steam keys for those games online, although the first one is quite expensive now. I also got the frontline field recorder hat by exploiting the replay files. The games Spiral Knights and Alien swarm also give hats. Still no hachimaki though.

One thing I'm still confused is about is how to they get items into the actual game in the first place? Do they have someone at Valve?

Yep, at some point there is direct communication with someone at Valve and coordinated that way. The community members are then given some method of entering Steam IDs on a "dashboard" somewhere to award their item. Valve a while ago stopped accepting new medal models - most medals recently for charity events and competitive tournaments have been the same item model as previous events of the same name, just with an updated in game name e.g. Casperr's Awesome Example Event Participant Medal 2022

It's not in the game *yet*. Last update from the team was back in April - looks like they still plan to add it but it's possible Valve are slow in responding mvm.pineapple.tf/ Might be because we're currently in the longest TF2 update drought *ever* - and I don't just mean major content, this is the longest we've ever gone even without a maintenance update in which new medals are usually shipped.

Hey my friend on steam friend Fossil303 is experiencing drops to 30 fps just when looking at players in tf2, in other games he almost always run at over 100 fps and even though my computer is worse i dont have this issue, could you try to help somehow, also he isnt in any steam betas

A lot of the unfortunately don't run anymore. Blapature as you say are back this year, and also the TF2Maps Jams still run regularly. I don't think many of the others do though 😥

Yep! The only way any Golden Wrench has made its way into the hands of someone who didn't get the drop is if they bought the Steam account off someone. This is against Steam's TOS

Cookie badge and a bow badge aren't exactly charities per say. Technically they are but only to Tf2 players. You get cookie badge for giving gifts to some tf2 Subreddit users(I got le badge) And there is a bow badge that is apperently awarded if you donate a lot... My question is how was Valve greedy to not allow Potato.tf recent Summer mvm event medals to appear in Tf2 and yet they allow some small subreddit to gift away medals... Preposterous

feels a little bit odd to see discussions about some items from charity events that just serve small encouraging purpose and certainly are not the main purpose of these events, kinda strange to make a video about something related to charity and not charity itself. I'm not criticisizing or anything, still good vid, but i just had that thought stuck in my head (also strange decision from valve anyway, trying to get attention to charity by promoting some cosmetics). Right thing to do is to help people without thinking about dumb 3d video game pins and not discuss how rare or expensive they might be without even mentioning these events in description and setting tags like "#tf2rarehats", that's just strange and i dont think saying that these events are X years old and are over counts as an excuse. You should never care about what charity gives you but about what you can give to charity. That's just my own way of understanding it. Thanks for reading :)

2:28 Also most expensive, seriously 100$ medal? I mean, if I had do much in unusuals I would donate since I still see medal rewards for donations in higher light then unusual collecting but it still seems a bit too steep of a price
