"Its very hurtful for someone to tell an acne sufferer that it's just their makeup or it's just their skincare that they've got wrong" honestly tho. My sister just so happened to be blessed with perfect normal skin that she can wash with mf dawn dish soap and it's still look great. She made comments like "look how much less moisturizer I use then you that's probably why you have so much acne" or "I dont use anything on my face and look at it, its probably cause you put too much on your face" *me literally having fash wash, niacimnide, and a moisturizer* like seriously it does hurt because I've struggled for years and sometimes I wish she had a shit load of acne so she could stop being so judgmental and jump to damn conclusions:/it really fucking affects your mental health, like seriously.. i always had those comments in my head and I mean the list goes on.. like girl not everyone has the same goddamn fucking skin ok? Why do you think products work better on other people then some.. CAUSE👏WE👏HAVE👏DIFFERENT👏FUCKING👏SKIN👏 .. well and diet. Although my skin has gotten a lot better now. @Joseph Cheung i understand. Strongly fragranced products irritate my skin and it gets instantly red and flushed. I would say, those products with minimal to no fragrance don't. But I understand - it is an umbrella term, and products are formulated with a lot more possible irritants.
@krizzyfire37603 жыл бұрын
@Joseph Cheung hi yes, that's what I said in my previous reply -- i understand, it's an umbrella term. Also yes, some essential oils are fragrant and irritating in nature, I get that they mask these as being "all natural, organic". It doesn't mean that if one has fragrance (minimum or not), that it's the only irritant. It's a combination of products scientifically formulated to create a mixture for a dozen of purposes. Mainly there are a couple of purposes for these product formulations: Maintain product integrity, potency, absorption, and chemical efficacy... just to name a few. As I said, I understand what it means. Also yes, it most definitely is a marketing tactic, so are pink and blue razors. For my skin, it's best for me to read the ingredients and check them out for my skin - and how it reacts. And I can deduce that most fragranced products tend to trigger my eczema. No worries man, skincare is a science and I get where you're coming from. I know all you want to do is educate and I respect that.

I have heard 1000s of really sad stories of people who have lose friends jobs and families gatherings because of this stupid allergy. I no longer have a normal life because of bath and body works, sephoria and lush. Don’t push our experience aside just because you don’t have this allergy. I have passed out in a yoga class because some idiot had to wear perfume to do yoga. I felt my throat close up. It took 2 days for the migraine to go away. My issue with fragrance is that a lot of things irritate my skin and when 'fragrance' is on the ingredient list, I can't single out a specific ingredient to avoid the way I can with octocrylene or whatever else makes my face sting. I don't avoid fragrance like the plague, I have a few products that contain it that don't bother me but I prefer it when all of the ingredients in my skincare that are listed by name. It also bugs me a bit if I have to avoid a product that might otherwise work for me because they chose to include an ingredient that the product would function the same without. It's like vegans and Red#4. I also am inclined, maybe incorrectly, to think that there are more people who don't realize that their skin is being irritated by their skincare products than people who are paranoid about ingredients. Until recently I simply thought that having a perpetually red and blotchy face was my lot in life.
@elizabethwilliams56213 жыл бұрын
I agree, I don’t get how things can just be listed as fragrance because what does that even mean? How can you tell what your skin is reacting to if it doesn’t say what it is? Idk I wish ingredient lists were more clear, it’s kinda sketch when they don’t say what it is.

Most of the advice online is to be careful while using irritating ingredients, the percentage of them in products and not to completely stop using them. "There isn't a lot(of data) to back it up" is exactly the problem these people who talk about skin of color are trying to address.

I swear!! People absolutely attack me when I provide factual information about how they don't need to hate on sunscreen. They attack me when I say that sunscreen bans are just like straw bans and don't have the impact that you want them to have. Sunscreen isn't even in the top 200 reasons for coral bleaching, and zinc oxide behaves very similarly to "chemical" filters. I really enjoy your videos and I love that you discuss skincare logically and you try to keep an open mind. I think because "Clean beauty" is a very broad term and that there is no clear definition for it, a lot of people with very different points of view have been grouped together under its labe and many of them are very misunderstood. I, for one, am a follower of science and I'd like to get actives in appropriate concentrations; I'm not a fan of essential oils or home remedies and I'm not fixated on "Naturally" derived ingredients however I'd like to avoid many of the controversial ingredients because I don't see the benefit of using them while there are many alternatives readily available that perform just as well. I think we should be striving for better and safer ingredients. I understand that the molecular structure of the final product is not necessarily the same as all of the individual ingredients and that a chemical change occurs which changes the final chemical structure and that concentrations are very important and some compounds while in lower percentages are absolutely safe. For instance Lye solution is used in soap making yet Lye is highly toxic but when the sopanification process is finished there is no more lye in the final product therefore soap is a absolutely safe to use topically. Plus many chemical changes are non reversible so once the transformer is completed, it's not going back. But some of the ingredients that are deemed as controversial can in fact be detected in the final product and in many cases the concentration do surpasses the authorized amounts when investigated by third parties! And since we do have alternatives I fail to understand why we are still using them! Why are we so focused on "Safe" and not on "Optimal"? If you look at the formulations and ingredients they are very similar, almost a carbon copy from one another yet we have more brands than we've ever had! With this number of brands competing there should be a lot of testing and studies and efficacy controls but there's not a huge amount of more and smarter scientific innovation. Everyone is claiming that they're making revolutionary products when they are private labeling a cheap and outdated formula! When a lot of people in the skincare community dismiss the idea that maybe some of the ingredients that are commonly used in formulations are not the best that we could be using in the 21st century, and label everyone who agrees with some of the Clean beauty's criteria, fearmongerer or anti-science, the conversation cannot progress productively! I think we should be constantly challenging science and trying to discover better, safer and more effective ingredients and be holding higher and higher standards for safety, performance and quality. Of course everything should be (and has been to a certain extent) rigorously tested and be proven effective by multiple researche teams.

@@maissa1486 thank you for your reply! Yeah I live in the UK so I had to order it online however they said it is best not to use during the summer months so I've only started using it the past 2 months. @@al8773 idk about that, the place where i live i definitely needed a prescription to get it, if it's not the case for you than it will be better to get the creme 0,1% its less stronger than the gel ect... so it will be great for a beginning so your face can get used to it and not react badly

When someone mentions 'fragrance', I immediately think they refer to Dr Dray. When someone mentions 'no acids for skin of colour', I immediately think they refer to Dr Vanitta Rattan. 😁😁

Dr Dray doesn’t like fragrance because like Cassandra said it can be a irritant. And Dr. V isn’t too fond of glycolic acid. She doesn’t demonize all acids for poc

Earlyy this time. I love the information and content she has put out this year. Especially I agree with the retinoid part. I’ve heard many of my friends and cousins tell me to stop using my differn as I’m too “young” for it. But I did get it prescribed from the dermatologist.

LOL at the first one! I’ve been on and off retinoids since I was 19 for acne (I’m 27)! My aunt, who is an esthetician, jokes that I’ll never have wrinkles. (Of course not true).

Hi Cassandra, can you please talk about the Purito Centella Unscented Suncreen? Apparently it’s actually SPF 19 and not SPF 50+. I’m so upset because I literally bought two bottles of it during Black Friday and I was so excited! I’m going to use them up anyway because why waste, but I just wanted to hear your thoughts on it.

Hi Cassandra! I really have enjoyed watching your videos. I recently decided to dive into skin care and have combination skin. Oily and acne prone. I have some texture issues and discoloration from spending time in the sun ☀️. Anyways I have watched your ordinary videos and see that you should not mix certain things. I’m winding if it’s ok to use Sunday Riley CEO VITAMIN C serum with the ordinary azalea of acid? I’ve been using the azalaic acid and loving it for just over a week now. Both am/pm because I had other items coming in the mail. I have noticed a difference and don’t want to give this up. I don’t want to clash products that I shouldn’t so I thought I’d ask you. Thanks 😊

OMG THANK YOU for this video. I keep seeing fragrance being absolutely demonized and I am sick of it, honestly. I've used fragranced skincare all my adult existance and my skin can be finicky but I've never had issues with fragrance lol...so the myth about fragrances being the devil is frustrating. Like you said, it depends on the person, but the vast majority shouldn't just automatically avoid all fragrances all of a sudden if they have no issues.
@db-gb5xi3 жыл бұрын
There's the other side of that that says that even if you have no reaction to fragrance now, you still have the potential to develop contact dermatitis at some point. So it's more preventative. Though, the issue seems to be more with products you leave on the skin as opposed to products you can rinse off.
@marilynmoreno96883 жыл бұрын
@@db-gb5xi not everyone will react to fragrances or ingredients in products, specialists just want to be careful about what they suggest due to liability. 😄

When I was a teen in the 80s, maybe early 90s I was prescribed retin a for acne. We found out the doc had to authorize it based on my acne dx for insurance to cover it. They would not pay for it otherwise cause ladies were trying to get it for their wrinkles. And back then it was so expensive to pay outright for. I loved it!
