Thanks John. ☺️ i just always keep One eye open and one eye out. I also got a perfectly good made in Japan by Ariana in the 1960s classical guitar. It was covered with grime and the strings were literally rotten. It had not been played in decades evidently. It was written inside that it was first purchased via Boosley and Hawkes in South Africa! Anyway, I got it also for five dollars, gently scrubbed it clean, spent $12 on Ernie Ball black nylon strings and it is beautiful to play. It now sits next to my Fender classical from 1981.

@Terrys-Steam-and-Cobi Awesome! Another great deal. Some years ago, I brought a beautiful looking guitar at a garage sale for $75, I forget the brand but it was a respected name. Anyway, it played awful. I put new strings on it and did my best to improve the playability, but no luck. I ended up donating it to a church yard sale, but with a note about its issues. You are just amazingly lucky!

perfect timing Terry! I just pulled my hardly used Wilesco out of storage a week ago and was going to ask for tips on running it properly. And I have a little lego for a machine shop too :) I wonder if anyone has made a McLean sawmill with Lego... (the steam powered one in Port Alberni)

$5 is excellent, I never mind live steam engines at a garage sale. I found a Wilesco tractor at a model shop in south Florida one time years ago. Good job getting it running. I would buy automotive gasket paper and use that to make a sight glass seal. If the teflon works that's good though. Just file off the excess solder. Harris solder is the best, PM Research sells their solder and flux in a pack. That is what I use when I soft solder fittings. I've done a lot with it.
@Terrys-Steam-and-Cobi4 күн бұрын
Yeah, the automotive paper is a very good ideaSteven. I’d have to buy some (and following your tip probably will for future use). I wanted to challenge myself by putting no more than the five dollars I had already pit into it. So stuff had to come from around the house. ☺️

That is fantastic Terry. A well spent $5 and to think you are now an expert boiler smith. I wonder if you could fit a goodall valve in place of one of the safety valves. It could run for hours then. Do you recomend any special water😁 Awesome mate. Love it👍

That is such a cool live steam engine you have here made into a mill! I tell you $5 is a deal because I bet those things are pretty expensive I would say idk.
@Terrys-Steam-and-Cobi4 күн бұрын
They are not too too expensive. A used D8 with some missing parts would be about 100 and with steam leaks 50 or 60. A like new one almost 200. So 5 was good. 😊
