My friend Graham from (Campfire history) KZfaq channel shows his choice of bushcraft knife in this video clip. Graham has been teaching bushcraft and forestry school skills for many years now. He is also a ex- army veteran and map historian who has been been into the great outdoors since childhood.
I have been considering buying this knife since it came onto the market but never got around to doing so because of the initial bad reviews due to edge chipping. I thought i would hang fire to see if Casstrom would sort this problem out before purchasing this knife.
Here is some of Grahams thoughts on the Lars Falt Casstrom bushcraft knife after more than a years heavy use.
Here is another review of one of Grahams knives by Origin knives. Check out the link below

Interesting that you’re blade is a K27 steel. Mine is Slieipner steel. Having been in bushcraft for over 30 years, This knive has become my favourite. The TBS boar knife seems clumsy and does not keep an edge the same as the Lars. One of my first was the wood lore, Ray Mears, not the original A.Wood. Very similar style as the Casstrom but contrary to belief, I find it far superior. Knives are a very personal thing, what suits one may not another. As I’ve used many grades of steel, the sleipner absolutely suits my needs. Excellent quality leather sheath. I think good value for money. Interesting to understand how we are all different in preference. Great review 🔪👍

How very true. Every knife is unique to the user and their personal needs when out camping and a bit of bushcrafting

Great review, shame to hear about the quality control issues with the blade finishing. For the price asked that shouldn’t be something leaving the factory.

The TBS boar is the same steel as your Lars Falt knife..... K720 tool steel, which is a carbon steel. I also have both. Nice video. 👍👍👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🍺🍺

I bought last week, a Joker Bushlord, with Walnut handle and Sleiptner steel, for 100€ It is also available with curly birch, which is the exact simular blade, like the Casström Lars Fält knife. I heard about, that the casström Lars Fält knife ,was produced in Spain, by Joker.

In case you didn't know, Casstrom changed the steel of this knife from the old Bohler K720 steel to Sleipner steel. Which one is yours?

It’s K720 steel 👍

I believe the chip your knife had when it came out of the box might be from the quality test they do before packaging. They hit it repeatedly with a hammer while attached to a vies, to check if check if it bends or chips. Perhaps the small chip was missed.

It could have been m8. The O2 (K720) steel is crap. not a patch on the O1 I have used on my other knives. Doesn’t hold a edge as good and doesn’t take as a keen edge like O1 I feel personally. I have used the TBS and Casstrom knives in the steel and definitely don’t like them. Then a knife to come from the factory with chips on the edge was the final straw for me. Wouldn’t entertain (K720) again.

Alot of new mass produced knives do come slightly chipped very fine along the edge. This is normall believe it or not as hand made knives tend to be finished better & stropped etc compared to mass produced ones nothing that a few min on a good strop can't sort out. It doesn't mean the knife is faulty but it does put people off unfortunately.

Very nice knives, I can spend a week out using it for every camp task imaginable and it’s still sharp enough to shave a cat when I get home. Holds an edge extremely well.

It’s definitely a lot of knife for the money. I’ve had mine about 18 months now, couldn’t recommend it enough, I didn’t have the blade issues you mentioned, luck of the draw I suppose. One feature that appealed to me was that the edge runs all the way down to the handle, lots of cutting control for fine work.

I wouldn’t recommend the O1 steel for hot and humid areas. Unless you are treating the knife with some form oil daily m8

I would go with the casstrom knife if i had to pick from the two knives. I ain’t to impressed with the steel (K720 tool steel) i much prefer the Mora garberg if it came down to the steels. The other two blades are more comfortable in prolonged use (carving) but if you put amalgamate tape on the handle of the garberg its a much better knife (£5 from from the tool store)

Not that hard to make your own bushy knife out of 01 or 1095. And much cheaper than buying someone else's for 'excalibur' value.
