I recently did a similar job using cypress (which is what I had available). I plowed a groove down the length of each of the bottom slats and set a half slat onto it to form a tee, making sure that each piece bowed upwards along its length. The somewhat bendy slats are now stiff and strong, even with my huge posterior sitting on them.

Smart people here...note the Green Bay Packers hat...lol. I'm a huge Packers fan, have to be. My dad graduated high school with a 4 year full ride to Wisconsin State...now UW-Platteville. His Jr or Sr season they missed a bowl game by a coin toss and finished 5th nationally for small colleges. They were cleaning out their lockers when 2 well dressed men walked in, met the head coach and went into a conference room. A few minutes went by and the coach stepped out and called my dad and 2 other men to join them. The 3 players went back in and sat down to find out all 3 were offered tryouts at Green Bay for the Packers. Dad ultimately declined as he was 5'9" 180#'s and an 11 year veteran Fast-Pitch Softball Pitcher and Class A. Class A was World-Class at the time and went on to pitch 38 years. Anyhow, the 2 men that represented Green Bay were none other than Bart Starr and Vince Lombardi himself. If my dad warranted an offer from Vince to try out at Green Bay he seen something in dad. Thus the Green Bay Packers get my allegiance, think anyone would respect them the same as well.

I'm finding that the more I do, and especially so the more I do things for her/both of us - I recently made Teresa a breakfast tray, and I'm currently building us an old-fashioned brick, wood and glass greenhouse - the more she takes an interest. She's started lending a hand with things, like some recent fence repairs, and now the greenhouse. She's even gone and helped me buy the wood to re-roof my shed workshop, a job that had been on hold, due to my lack of funds/materials. ❤️

A trick with the phillips screwdriver is to use vice grips to turn the shank while you push inward. Some larger phillips screw drivers have a squared off shank near the handle so you can turn it with a wrench.

I’m rehabbing what appears to be the exact identical garden bench. What is the brown/orange product you spray on the cast-iron before you spray the black? I assume some sort of rust retardant? I’ve got black rustoleum, but perhaps I need a primer of another rust inhibiting product.
