Wow! The first booth of cast iron…that seller knows how to refurbish that iron!! It’s beautiful!! I hope someone who will appreciate and care for it well will buy it and use it for their lifetime and then pass it down! I have 3beautiful pieces that I inherited from my 93 year old friend that came from her parents, Griswald of course!! I had to bring it back to life. It was well used and put away and had rusted but with just a little knowledge gained from a few KZfaq videos and some elbow grease, they shine and make the best food! I’m glad you were talking about cast iron today and how truly wonderful it is!! I really enjoy your videos! I live in central Indiana and I hope to make the journey sometime soon to the Heart of Ohio!!🥰

The vintage iron skillets are milled and polished on the inside, which is what makes them non-stick. New cast iron is not milled and I understand would be too costly to do so. Thanks for the all videos, they are interesting to watch.

The only thing even close are Butterpat...but by the time you wait for yours, and get billed for it, a vintage skillet makes as much sense!

The linens -you never know. The Asian stuff will take off running, except maybe for the resin. New skillets aren't seasoned and they're coated in chemicals. The old ones in the Heart look like mine - great-grandpa bought it 120 years ago and packed it around on the back of his horse. The horse is long gone, but I'm still using the skillet. The inside is shiny like that too. (just don't soak them in water, or if you do, dry in a warm oven to make sure all the water is gone.) The old ones are also tougher - they're heat-treated in a way new ones can't be.

Is there something more special about the "St. Louis" cast iron than from other locations?

@@BernerBrotherAntiques I bought a tiny little cast iron dog at a thrift store with the words St. Louis across his backside. I bought it because it was cute, but when I saw the comps on Ebay I quickly listed it and sold it right away for $100.00. I still don't know what made it special, but there was a lot of interest in the item. Just curious if it had to do with St. Louis.
