It definitely is missing Grant Danasty. Especially the drama where he's in love with Sypha Belnades but she doesn't return the same especially what he does when Sypha and Trevor get married.And not to mention when Death turned Grant into a monster.

You could do SO MUCH with a rogue named after one of the royal families of Wallachia. Picture it, "last heir of royal family fakes death, becomes criminal, forms a resistance and fights Count Dracula, only for his resistance to get slaughtered and himself turned into a demon" Both Konami and Ellis seem to have this absolute hatred of Grant, for some reason. I cannot fathom why.

It pissses me off, he's not in because Warren doesn't like this name which is just ridiculous Then they talk about a guy called the pirate of the lands, there's multiple characters who can be Grant Then they make a town of Danesti, I get it it's a reference to the Danesti Family of Wallachia but serious Grant lead a group to fight Dracula but their all slaughtered and he's turned into a monster He's one of the heroes to kill Dracula but just because that nimrod doesn't like his name he's not shown just mention and teased The show is a amazing but I personally like Grant, wanted to see more of him and the Danesti Family if there's still any survivors

Nice fact about Grant, he was cursed by no one other than Dracula himself, meaning that Grant alone take all his way to the throne room and survived against death without his spiderman powers

Adapting Grant out is just one of the reasons the show left me disheartened. Cutting out the cabal of OCs would have left room for him, and taking advantage of the fact he's named after Wallachia's royal family would have made for a cool character arc. Picture it: Last surviving heir to the throne ran away to play pirate, then adventures and new friends convince him to become king. Greta of Danesti was a twist of the knife. She's nothing but a self-insert OC and last second love interest. Seasons 1 and 2 were love letters to the games, 3 and 4 were half-baked fanfics written by two people who forgot to compare notes.

I think you did an absolutely perfect summarization of why Grant Danasty should have been included, and how annoying it is that so many original characters were included and not Grant. I think what just genuinely frustrates me is that all these characters to some extent just ended up feeling useless and unnecessary to the storyline, while a character that could have been useful in the storyline was excluded. Personally, I would have much preferred Grant Danasty showing up in Season 4 over Greta of Danesti and teaming up with Alucard. To me while Sam Deats and others on Twitter confirmed Greta of Danesti wasn't supposed to be Grant, I wouldn't be surprised if she was in Warren Ellis' ridiculous mind.

This video is amazing and is right on point. Grant sounds like he could have been to Trevor's team what Sokka was to team avatar. It's really sad that in the end we never got Grant... But who knows; some day we might get a better adaptation or some new piece of media that does more with him. Ya never know.

I think Grant would have been an interesting character. I could see him being somewhat overwhelmed by all the weirdness around him, but cracking jokes and giving the other 3 nicknames. Yeah, he'd be a very light-hearted character, but not a complete joke or those annoying characters who only exist to be funny, and perfectly capable of holding his own and adding some insight on humanity, good and bad. I like the idea of Grant being a former criminal who owes Trevor and Sypha a blood oath for saving his life and becomes a more heroic (if still somewhat thieving) character. Just imagine the combination attacks they could do; someone as fast and agile as Grant can easily distract foes for the others, even getting in quick slashes, or riding on Sypha's ice shards as he slices foes around him. I'm still disappointed he only got an offhand mention at the start of Season 3.

It's funny, because I had ALMOST actually gone into the fact that it was so refreshing to hear some enthusiasm for Grant when even the Netflix adaptation decided to leave him out when you mentioned him earlier. I even had the same exact thought about the rando Isaac turned into a monster in the desert, eventually leading up to nothing and never being mentioned again. Ah, but I was a naïve Castlevania fan who was mostly just interested in the fact that there even WAS such an adaptation, no matter the Faustian bargains made along the way... Of course, part of it was not wanting to inundate you with my own input when I knew you were already well underway on your own creative endeavor that I wanted to see unfurl as its own independent production... and another part was the combination of not wanting to jinx Grant for yet another season of possible usage (once the Curse of Darkness well had all but dried up?!) and a likewise fear that perhaps anything I might say would age poorly within scant days... --- The one point I'd like to bring up is that Grant is never actually characterized anywhere as a "pirate"... or even a criminal for that matter... ... ...mostly because that would require Konami actually pay him any mind to begin with. Even though his appearance does indeed scream "pirate!" to many a first glance in Dracula's Curse for many casual observers, it's no less apt than calling him a "mummy" because of how he was visualized for Castlevania Judgment. Castlevania III merely bothers to refer to him as an "Acrobat" in its credits, for all THAT's really worth. However, while the localization of his name might be questionable at best... I feel it merits mention that of the two most prominent lineages to frequently compete for power, the Drăculești needs no introduction (despite most people knowing the name for a much less historical and far more literary and largely irrelevant reason) ...but their literal blood feud cousins were in fact the Dănești. An actual, literal blood feud! Vlad the FIRST of Wallachia was even a Dănești, despite the slightly greater prominence of Vlad II ("the Devil") Dracul's own named dynasty, and especially his son, Tepes a.k.a. The Impaler. --- Regardless! I will not protest in the slightest any attempts to bring Grant more into focus... because, well, he's important! More important than Castlevania even has time to get into... in any form! He might not be related to Dracula (even if he probably WAS some cousin, however many times removed!) or the Belmonts, but given that humans kept living after Dracula stopped laying waste to them, Grant would've definitely had to have a hand in it. It sure wasn't Alucard or those foreign interloper "vampire killers," or else the timeline wouldn't be nearly so fuzzy. Thanks for doing your part to Grant up the airwaves just a little bit at a time! --- The only other "minor" note I'd make is that... while I'm not especially unused to such, given that I chose a veritable vowel-salad username long ago... but "YuuGiJoou" actually has two o's in it. Shame that in-video credits are kinda set in stone upon encode and upload... but I would've settled for a footnote and/or link in the description. He was referred to as “one of the Three Heroes” in judgment and in Symphony of the Night a replica of him fought Alucard along with replicas of both Sypha and Trevor so…Why the hell wasn’t he in the series?

I really liked the Netflix series, but as I said in a Reddit thread yesterday, when you really think about it the series is just some extremely elaborate and high budget fanfiction of Castlevania 3 with a bit of Curse of Darkness and a touch of the other games like COTM or SOTN. It's not bad by any means, and I really liked what they did with characters like Trevor and Isaac, but in many things it's Castlevania in name only, and there are some things which do admittedly don't really work that well. Case and point, Alucard spent the entirety of season 3 sad, training some assholes who ended up injuring him and possibly raped him, and that character development was for nothing because out of nowhere Alucard just ended up going back to being the guy he's always been in the final season. The fact that Warren Ellis just refused to include Grant is honestly kind of insulting considering that most of his excuses are either really dumb or easily disproven, and the real kicker is that Grant has always been in desperate need of some character development given that all that we have gotten is some shitty love triangle plot from a bad Wii game everyone in the fandom hates.

Ngl I'm not actually that big of a Castlevania fan, mostly learning some sparse non-Netflix information from outside sources like Smash Bros, news on the Internet, and friends who play Castlevania, but even I knew who Grant was and was thinking some sort of agile bandit or thief would've been cool to see as a part of the main cast. Alas, that's not what happened. I still thoroughly enjoyed the show, but still...kinda sucks that the OCs had more meaningful screentime than Hector, a protagonist of one of the games, who...never even got a fight scene, and I know he can fight, the guy's main armament is a hammer. Characters and powers are so different in the show than in the video games that most fans actually consider them separate from the canon characters and setting, which isn't bad per see, just...different. I'm wary but optimistic on how they're going to portray Richter in the upcoming spinoff series. Kinda weird that they skipped over Simon Belmont, the very first Belmont released by Konami in the first Castlevania, but I like Richter. From what I've seen from video games and such is that Richter is a boastful, dramatic, hammy, yet noble guy who's proud of his lineage and wants to help people and fight evil...and that sounds like a great contrast to Trevor, especially since I think Richter is the first Belmont since Trevor that Alucard would interact with. He's even greatly adept with holy magic, something Trevor explicitly says he's horrible at. I hope they do him justice.

I think, if they're going to adapt Simon's story, they'll include Grant since we already established that people from Danesty is a thing and Simon's been Trevor and Sypha's kid in other lore... so... he might end up being a bandit who's from said village and becomes Simon's buddy during their barbarian boat ride arc, I'm guessing...? 🤷‍♂️

They did my boys Hector and Gret dirty in the show. Plus i didn't really like the show. To be honest this show was just a misrepresentation of the characters and their storylines and designs. I'm glad that Netflix is going to stop doing the show because The Writer/showrunner sucks and also I heard there's allegations about him so that's why Netflix stopped. Hector's and Isaac's powers are very different in the animated series. With Hector in the games he can basically control spells and manipulate spellcrafting like a forgemaster would a blade, hence the name Devil Forgemaster. In the animated series, the Devil Forgemaster is someone who creates creatures of the Night, individuals that can apparently be born from the union of vampires naturally, but the Devil Forgemaster bypasses the process of procreation to literally create Night Monsters but they're bound to his will as well as the will of the person the forgemaster pledges himself too. So I think if we're changing the powers this drastically, we can do with an interesting personality change.

I guess they left out Grant from the show, because they felt it would have been harder to develop the other three main protagonists trevor, cypher and alucard. Making it a trio of main heroes instead of a foursome, it lets more focus being on them. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the greater story, like how they removed tom bombadil from lord of the rings movies.

There's already too many protagonists in the show (and the schedule for it's ending was clearly tight so the last season kinda rushed everyone's plot to the end while it could've easily been another season) and there's truly no reason for more, like, sure he could've been there but there's not much reason to do that, it would just make the plot unnecessarily more heavy

Given how Warren Ellis and Netflix butchered everything else, perhaps leaving Grant out was an act of mercy. If only they could have done the same for Hector, Isaac, the shoehorned woke garbage and trying to turn this show into the poor man's Game Of Thrones.

Seems to me, making Trevor Belmont a crude drunk slowly making his way back up to becoming a roguish hero overwrites whatever role Grant Danasty would have played in the story and team dynamic. If Grant were added in, you'd have to split up Trevor's rogue hero shtick between him and Grant, leaving Grant to be the hard-to-like rogue and Trevor to play a more straightforward hero; he can't be too world-weary otherwise he'd cut into Alucard's brooding time. He also can't be too noble, as that might take away from Sypha's initial naivete. It would dilute the character interactions and also what they contribute to the story. Not saying it's impossible to pull off, just that reducing the main party to three tightens the focus.

This video was great. Solid points. I just wish you had waited a little longer since we finally for the Netflix adaptation of Grant in season 4 (Greta). Oh well, just means you get to make a follow up! Anyways, as I said, great work!

I diagree with Netflixvania been a good adaptation and I think it is mediocre show by itself. The worst thing about is that all the questionable and radical changes, the flat and boring OCs and all the built up, it amount to nothing in season 4. Take out all that has to do with Hector, Issac, Carmilla and sisters and hell the entire season 3 and I'm pretty sure we would have a better show. But no Warren Ellis wanted another post-modern "masterpiece" to elevated his ego. He just spitted on the fans.

What if in a sequel series Grant is a decendent of Greta Denasti. There's no way to directly adapt any of the games anymore so I mean, it would totally make sense.
