Review Castrol Magnatec Engine Oil Review. Castrol Magnatec is a fully synthetic oil, made with Intelligent Molecules, the amazing science of Castrol Magnatec.
Science Behind Carstrol Magnatec:
goo.gl/sdCwks
The Story
As a global business, Castrol develops engine oils and lubricants for a vast range of applications and industries - from the car and motorcycle oils to the specialist industrial lubricants we develop for the marine and offshore industries.
Over 80 years, driven by technology, we’ve tested our engine oils in the most extreme situations - from rigorous lab and industry testing to the highly competitive world of motorsports.
Castrol MAGNATEC, one of Castrol’s leading engine oil brands, has been helping motorists protect their car engines for almost 20 years by offering instant protection from the moment you start. The intelligent molecules in Castrol MAGNATEC are specially formulated to cling to critical engine parts, and dramatically reduce engine wear.
Castrol MAGNATEC Molecules
It’s Castrol MAGNATEC’s intelligent molecules that truly set it apart from other engine oils. These ultra-refined molecular components cling to your engine throughout all driving conditions, and even when the engine is off.
When the engine stops, oil drains back to the sump, but Castrol MAGNATEC’s intelligent molecules don’t. They cling to critical engine parts like a magnet, providing an extra layer of protection from the start, and throughout warm-up.

Castrol Magnatec contains group III base oil - hydrocracked blended with various additives according to the car manufacturer specifications. Castrol put this oil on various markets as a fully synthetic oil but, actually, it is an oil obtained through the HC synthese process. It is not a bad engine oil, but is not fully synthetic. No engine oil manufacturer will publish the concentrations and types of base oils or additives put into an oil, because it is regarded as a company secret, so the only way to find how an engine oil is made of is to put it trough an analysis into a laboratory.

@averyalexander2303 7 жыл бұрын
All that "oil stabilizers" do is make the oil thicker so it seeps past worn rings and valve guides and leaks slower. It just hides the symptoms of a worn out engine. I put it in my Honda that has been knocking for months, the knock got louder and 2 days later it spun a bearing and threw a rod on the highway, I did a motor swap. Not saying it blew up because of the Lucas, the engine was obviously dying, and for all I know it may have blown up the next day without the Lucas. You may not agree with me on that, but if you put in a couple weights thicker oil, you will be much better off, especially in extremely cold weather than using Lucas. Just my opinion.

depending on how it sticks all you need to know is chemistry, a water molecule doesn't lose its bonds in 100 years or even 1,000 years unless acted upon by an outside source. so in a closed enviorment the oil could stay put for any amount of time that type of bond stays stable. so claims of 100 years could be very easy to back up, I could truthfully say my water bottle of water will stay full for 1,000 years even though water bottle have only been around for a few decades.

Hy-per lube oil supplement works the same as this oil, but it's an oil additive. Hyper lube helps the oil cling onto metal surfaces. The good thing about hyper lube is you can add it to your preferred oil. Mostly every car's valvetrain are made with iron components so this Castrol magnetec will cling on the cams, rocker arms etc.

Group 5 base stock: Esters. Esters are polar molecules. Exactly like a little magnet. Some esters are VERY/polar-magnetic. They are used as paint strippers on steel. They suck right thru the paint and lift it off. My guess: that similar is adding to a Group 3 base stock to make Magnetec. My equipment sits months between start-ups. I switched. It is priced right. I bought my Subaru Forester 2014 in a desert environment , summer temperatures can reach 55c / 130f, Subaru dealer only used one oil for the car: 20w50 yes thats right I was shocked lol, and then I moved to a very cold country with winter temperatures reaching -30 c/ -22f, and the Subaru dealer uses 5w30 castrol . and if you check the car manual it strictly recommends 0w20 lol. and I can tell you the difference, my engine runs the best sounds the best on 5w30, I used 0w20 for 2 seasons and the noise my engine makes was very bad. could be related or not but this is my experience.

I perceive Castrol as a premium quality oil. But maybe that is just a perception. I have never run an engine so long that wear has become evident. I have just replaced the oil in a 2011 Malibu with the 2.4 liter engine with Castrol Maganatec 5W-30, I have not noticed any difference in the way the engine runs and the MPG has gone down, but that is probably because the weather has become colder. Regarding what weight to use, I am not going to second guess a manufacturer mechanical engineer who recommends a specific weight. If the engineers say use SAE 0W-20 oil, that is what I will use. Every owners manual I have read says do NOT use oil additives. So, I stay away from them. Where I don't follow the rules is the oil change interval. The Malibu has an oil life sensor that seems to say "Don't change the oil until you have 10,000 miles on it. I always change the oil when it says there is 50% oil life remaining. Magnets on the oil filter? Has Bundy sawed open his oil filter and found metallic sediment gathered around the location of the magnet? I suspect not. Many of the wear surfaces are aluminum and other non-ferrous metals. Like Bundy, I doubt claims made by advertisers, but I also doubt statements made by non professional mechanics.

if your oil is clean after 1000 miles... golden honey or whatever... never use it again and change it asap. that means all the crap is staying inside. no matter what engine you have, it makes a hideous amount of crap. oil thermodynamically cools, hydrodynamically lubricates and holds combustion byproducts in suspension. the dirtier the oil, the happier I am.

Sir, the closed loop vs. open loop has to due with engine operating parameters. Your engine operates on its closed loop maps when you are in typical driving conditions, such as smooth throttle inputs with below 50% throttle angle. It goes open loop when it detects operating conditions outside these parameters such as WOT. The w in the oil is for winter rating and it's best to use what the engine designers recommend. Some engines have very tiny passages when a thinner oil is needed to flow to especially during hard driving. Most oils readily available even in 10 or 15 winter rating are more than capable of handling most cold winters. A thinner oil will also have less parasitic fluid drag on the moving parts of the engine which is in part why you get better mpg assuming consistency in driving habits. On a side note, it isn't necessary with modern cars to let them sit. In actuality what they told you is correct, it is better to drive the car shortly after starting to bring the oil and engine to optimum operating temperature (normal driving, not revving it out) because gasoline being a solvent will dilute the protective oil on the cylinder walls and will also get past sometimes into the crankcase reducing the effectiveness of the oil's ability to lubricate and protect. The engine oil as it reaches its operating temperature will evaporate the gasoline and reduce this damaging dilution effect within the cylinders and crankcase. Nothing wrong in using aluminum or plastic where steel is not necessary. Besides less weight means less work the engine and brakes has to due to move or stop your car from reduced inertia. Also means you'll be faster in all areas of performance if that tickles your fancy. There isn't some large conspiracy between the EPA, governments or auto and oil manufacturers. It just improvements in efficiency and trying to make sure you don't die an early death from air pollution or suffer from acid rain again though I doubt anybody remembers that anymore. I think you went off on a bit of a tangent towards the end, mostly out of mostly harmless ignorance. However nothing that a bit of study wouldn't fix. Overall an interesting video and appreciate the results posted at the end. Cheers.

In my opinion Magnatec is/was no different to most other motor oils. All motor oils adhere (or leave a thin film) on engine parts. Castrol just had the brains to come up with the brilliant name (that was theirs only) which gave people the impression that they had invented something new. Of course you would have to pay more for this new wonder engine oil with these new & amazing abilities even though it was not too much different to most other engine oils. I believe that the Magnatec venture was one of the best advertising campaigns in the history of Motor Oil. Now here we are in 2023 Magnatec is old hat & we have this new & amazing Synthetic oil (with a new & amazing Price too) that does everything better. But this time everyone has jumped on board because no one company can own the name "Synthetic" But I must admit that some of these additives & magic Synthetic mixes that oil companies are flogging off these days do burn cleaner in a diesel. I don't think they lubricate any better than high quality mineral oils, & some definitely don't, but some of them sure do burn cleaner than mineral oils..

what you also need to do is have previous oil samples to establish a wear rate before trying a new oil. than retest after using a different oil and see if there is more or less wear metals in the oil. there is also many other things that motor oil does but everyone gets so hung up on wear! viscosity modifiers, antifoaming agents, corrosion inhibitors, acid inhibitors, and so on. you don't need to take two cars and run a million miles to test oil. come on Bundy! do your research if your going to make an intelligent oil video!

Magnatec is Castrol's medium-range hidrocracked oil. It's a good oil for it's price. Change it every 10.000 km and get over their magic propaganda. Edge is a top range Castrol oil and more preferable, why complicate things? But, if one is looking for quality oil superior in every aspect - engine oils based on real PAO/ester base are still no.1. As far fuel consumption goes... fresh oil always gives better mileage if compared to the old oil. Not so scientific to make a 20-minute video. These 5w-20 grades are primarily made as fuel economy oils.
@davidporter7051
@davidporter7051 3 жыл бұрын
You must not be informed. There are no ester based motor oils. Redline is at most 10% PAE in it's popular grades it's 1-5%. PAO was replaced by GTL and other group III base oils. Actual oil specifications and manufacturer approvals are what is important not marketing terms.
@PureRocker20
@PureRocker20 3 жыл бұрын
@@davidporter7051 Yes, GTL replaced PAO in some premium synthetic oil formulations, and it is good enough. Shell and Mobil use their GTL, but otherwise...you'll mostly get group III. and hope for the best. A lot of room to manipulate formulations, even the GTL ones. Actual oil specifications and approvals don't keep an oil stable in service, quality base oil does. PAO is still a base oil used for many 0W-XX synthetic oils, egz. Castrol ones. PAO based oils, with the addition of Diesters are very rare today, but they do exist (and not just "racing" oils).

You are all making valid points... however, I feel that maintenance, driving conditions, and driver behavior have a much greater effect over time than the actual oil itself. That is not to say that one oil is not much "better" than another. I just feel there are several non-oil related factors that can trump the factor of "which oil" is being used.

@@fwh79FOXR6 ultimately you can go down to the molecular level and say oil x has more of component y than the competition BUT in real circumstances, over a realistic vehicle lifespan, i don't think it matters all that much. any oil that meets specs and is changed at the manufacturer recommended schedule will work as well as the next. at the end of the day not only is this a mature technology but the majority of motor oil companies don't physically manufacture anything anyway, they just buy the ingredients they want from elsewhere, blend and bottle.

What people are forgetting is this oil doesn't meet alot of manufacturers specs like mopar 6395 or Gm 6094 or 4718 and a few others I can't think of. I wonder what the reason is. Another thing to consider is if it's coating stuff that has to slow down heat transfer to the oil to cool the motor. Similar to SLICK 50 and ptfe, I consulted oil companies years ago about stuff that coats motor inside and a couple companies said same thing you don't want heat transfer slowing down and that honestly makes sense. So basically no change in mileage. The high one of 23 is an anomaly and that would need to be thrown out. You can get a 2 mpg difference on almost any fill up depending on a few things. Now if it were 23,23,23 over and over, I would say, there is something there. Also fresh oil will always give you better mileage for a tank or two. So not conclusive. I'm like you - skeptical. Next, if you let your car warm up for 5 or 10 minutes every time you take it, your over all mileage is not going to be as good. Lastly, I would follow what the engineers recommend on a vehicle and not follow so called "common sense". What is not known in your assumption is the oil pathways and ports. Some are pretty small and will not allow a heavier viscosity oil to go through as easily or as designed. Otherwise why wouldn't everyone use a straight 50 weight oil in summer and a straight 5 in winter? It all depends on what is engineered into the car. We don't know that and are assuming the professionals are idiots. They may be, but that's a different story. All I know is that cars today are not what they were 30 years ago or 60 years ago when much of the common sense lore developed. I think Castrol is probably a good oil, but is it that much better? If you can go 500,000 on an engine, then great. Your basically wearing the car out and then getting a new one anyway. But by the time you get 500k on a car, you will have replaced the tranny 1 or 2x's and probably want one that is more modern. But maybe not.

I've read from "reviewers" that Magnatec causes engine sludge, and that makes sense to me if you have been using the same oil for too long, not if you strive to keep your engine running on fresh oil according to manual instructions. Now, if Magnatec DOES create _any_ sludge even when changed periodically, *I would like to hear that from someone who can honestly prove it!* I am right now about 90% convinced to use the synthetic blend version of this oil for about 2 years on my trusty, mint Nissan B14 Sentra, which has been using nothing but fresh mineral oil for its entire 60,000-mile life, as far as I know, and then take a look at the internals to see what happened. Any serious comments would be so welcome! Cheers..

H6 engine I fully resealed , inspected, and used with the best oil I can buy. On a promo, I put magnatec in. A world of difference to smoothness, tickover, and engine acceleration. It pulls better now. Put magnatec in 1997 3.4 toyota with 235k kms. Once again, a big difference. Put in 1999 bmw k1100 motrbike, again, big difference. No oil has ever made such a difference to any engine I have had. if its magnetic oil you should put a small magnet on the side of the container and it should stay. I highly doubt it's magnetic. It's just a marketing gimmick. Castrol is clever at marketing their low end oil with no certifications. I would not use any additives, it modifies the viscosity of the oil in use. The best you can do an oil sample in the states, but due to the varied driving conditions, it wouldn't be worthwhile anyway. You might as well use Castrol Edge which has some manufacturer certifications (But I bet they are paid to write those). Change your oil regularly according to manufacturer recommendations and use the stuff they recommend to use, don't complicate things.

And if it's not as good as Castrol edge then why would you think it's as good as the top oil from any other company? What Castrol has done is take one characteristic, amplified it and promoted it to death. There are many things an oil has to do, many specs an oil has to meet and Castrol avoids talking about that. So why doesn't Castrol call this their top oil if it's so wonderful and downgrade Edge?
