If he was playing today with all the protection players get and the amazing pitches there wouldn’t even be a question who is the real GOAT. Messi is an amazing player, but Maradona is still seen as a god in Argentina for a reason. He united the country like no one else could ever do.

All in an era with terrible pitches and next to no protection from career ending tackles. If he was playing today they would be automatic red cards. Messi has never had to face anything like that.

Los jovenes no conocieron a Diego, no habian nacido cuando Diego dominaba el mundo, me alegra mucho que lo esten descubriendo porque es una leyenda, tienen que saber por qué los que lo vimos en vida, decimos que es el mejor de todos los tiempos, sin desmerecer a nadie. You forgot to mention Johan Cruijff, not only a magical player but he also changed the game forever with his vision and tactics ( tikkietaka that made Spanisch football on top of the world again). But I agree, Maradona was and is the greatest of all time. The most natural and gifted player I ever have seen on the fields. Absurd talent.

The true GOAT. I could go on all day about what he did in 86 and at Napoli, in an era where they were competing against AC Milan which was the best team on the planet then. He also played on terrible pitches and was never given the protection players get today. Most of the challenges he faced would be automatic red cards today.

You are right abiut it being easier for attackers. The average goal er comeptition game in Spain from 2005-2021 ws between 2,7 and 3,1. In Maradona's era (1978-1991) the average goal scored in the Italian competition was between 1,8 and 2,2 goals per match. These are very significant numbers because each season had 400 matches. So yeah all atackers have an easier time now.
