Not true at all. Gaining a strong mind comes from overcoming actual hardship, and being forced to use your mind to solve real problems. The more stat points you spec in STR and CON, the fewer you have left over for INT, WIS and CHA.
@WelshSwordsman

@@straightupanarg6226 Lifting is a hardship. To have the motivation and overcome the mental resistance to gyms builds fortitude. Going by your gaming terms: going to the gym increases STR, CON, CHA, WIS, and INT. STR: Lifting increases muscle mass. CON: Decreases chance of disease from obesity and unhealthy lifestyles, decreases body fat. CHA: Makes you more confident, and gets your body closer to the beauty standard. WIS: Increase mental fortitude. INT: Going to the gym has links to increased attentional control, processing speed, working memory capacity, etc. Going to the gym is like levelling up in a game where all stats +1.

I, like most other people who lift a bit, aim for inbetween 8 and 12 reps. Seems to work well. Multiple sets. lift to failure. etc etc. Read starting strength on bb.com
@GerikDT
@GerikDT 7 жыл бұрын
Strength/Powerlifting: 3-7 repetitions. This promotes myofibrillar hypertrophy, and while not making you look as much like a balloon animal, is good for achieving true strength. Some go as low as even 1-2 repetitions at times, but it's not recommended unless prompted by a trainer who knows what he's doing. Size/Bodybuilding: 8-12 repetitions. This, instead, focuses on sarcoplasmic hypertrophy, which increases the size of the glycogen storages in your muscles. Doing so makes your muscles larger, but it doesn't improve your strength as much. However, it does help with your endurance more, as glycogen is the energy your muscles use for continued work. Makes sense, as you're working with smaller weights, but in a larger rep count, right? Some will even do as many as 15 reps, but you're better off sticking to that golden 8-12 range. Now, above that, the exercise won't be as efficient, and progress will slow down immensely. However, it still depends on what you're trying to achieve. If you're trying to increase the amount of push-ups you can do, and you can do around 25, this is still the best way to raise that number further. So while doing regular pushups all day won't do much in terms of achieving the body of a bodybuilder, it's still going to improve your performance, and eventually allow you to do 50 pushups in a row, though it would take a long time.
@Riwillion
@Riwillion 7 жыл бұрын
Very well described. But people also work in 15+ rep ranges, and there is nothing wrong with that, as long as growth isn´t your primary concern and you want to get great endurance. Most functional would probably be to work in all of these rep ranges, as advised by Jeff Cavalier (Athlean-X). But for most people, 8-12 is probably the best choice most of the time, if their primary goal is to build muscle. That said, some people may have a different muscle composition and respond better to higher rep training, and also, some muscles DO have a different fiber composition by default, so they will respond better to higher reps (especially abs, calves, and forearms, also partially back muscles). Hope this helps :)
