Money. When people want a cheap job, you can't always do all of the extra work. It's coming out of your pocket.

@@dylanpeterson3490 proper planning prevents piss poor performance... he will end up having to do it later when the driveway has huge potholes and all the debris is scattered (and wish he had done it in the begining)

I see what you're saying, but if the job was three loads of rock and spreading for free, you get what you get. I'm not going to spend 5 hours on a job that pays 2. It all depends on what was agreed on. too many cut throats to afford to do a lot of extra work on little jobs.
