Screw you guys complaining that it's different. As a fellow singer who blew his voice out, it's a frigging miracle that Chan invented this whole new way of singing to work around it. She's been influenced by later artists from the genre she helped invent and define and that lady is still a goddamn genius

whats the new way of singing specifically. i see she has 2 mics and maybe an effect, but is there something in particular people are moaning about? just interested as I havnt seen her much recently

@@Captain_Rhodes Listen to her stuff when she was trying to actually sing but after all the cigarettes. Her singing voice became a tortured rasp. But she learned to incorporate her speaking voice and pitch it right so she can sing with it to a limited degree. I was impressed because most people just give up singing altogether due to that.

@@toska8664 ok yea I see what you mean. I think it sounds fine. I saw her play in a church about 20 years ago and it was one of my favourite shows. she was very good. Her voice was never the main reason I listened to her anyway. Its a very soft voice and it still has that quality. I just hope she lays off the autotune.

@@Captain_Rhodes She was an excellent songwriter and could back it up with a super real and beautiful singing voice. Just 20 years of booze and cigarettes took their toll and now she can only half-sing. Throwing her speaking voice through layers of effects to seem like she is singing but where she is innovative is in rewriting her songs so that she can sing them again but with influences from later artists like Lana del Ray etc

Cat is the finest female artist of this generation- fact. She is the real deal, the grand slam -the ultra violet flower in a bed of weeds. Keep on rocking Cat- love the vibe.

I could listen to Cat Power all day. She opened for Alanis in Tinly Park 2021. Awesome show. She had no band. It was her and a piano.

Because at this moment in time she feels this way and actually you have to admire her for the courage she shows in trying new ways to convey the song. The Jukebox version is still there, intact.
