Catalonia Maroma has always intrigued me as it is located on one of the nicest stretch of Beach South of Cancan. We have stayed at Secrets Maroma, a premium resort with a high price, but wanted to see if this budget friendly resort would meet expectations. Overall a great value with a few downfalls that will hopefully be resolved down the road. The Catalonia name is well know for quality and for the most part doesn't disappoint. If your looking for a good value family resort, with decent quality food options, this could be a consideration for your next travel to the Riviera Maya. If your use to higher level amenities I would suggest the Moon Palace or an Xcaret property.

Thanks for the ad for Secrets Maroma. We too like Secrets Maroma. I would like to point out that Secrets also has nightly restaurant closures, more so now during covid cutbacks, so not every restaurant is available at every resort in the AMR Resorts group (owners of Secrets, Dreams, Now, Breathless, etc). We too have travelled and stayed at top end resorts and like the service. Our opinion of the Secrets and Dreams breakfast buffets are that, while nice, they are boring and repetitive… best breakfast buffet during our 19 visits to Cancun, by FAR, was at the Valentin, so every resort has its strengths and weaknesses. Anyway, my tip to resolve your wait times for restaurants would be to send an advance scout to get seating early (rather than wait for peak traffic to show up) and then enjoy the wait time. You are in paradise, stop complaining and don’t succumb to Princess-and-the-Pea Syndrome. I find enjoyment is 50% location, and 50% attitude.

Sorry for the late reply. Spring is a great time to be in Quintana Roo. The food at the restaurants was really great, even surprised us for such a value resort. The buffet was on the average side.

I was there last January. I thought my room was haunted! But it was an awesome experience.😅 I got the all inclusive and the food was disappointing. The beach was spectacular tho and I found a secluded spot further than the right side

Very Great, Honest Review. Your family seems super cool and I love that you travel together as a family even though the kids are older. We are gonna try to do the same and are entering that phase of life soon. We will be at the CM in 2 weeks from today!! I'm wondering if anyone, reading this now, knows if all the restaurants are open (at the same time) and if they got rid of the ridiculous mask nonsense. It's not to late for me to cancel. Thanks.

We came back from secrets and really loved it especially the beach. We want to bring the kids so we are booking the privilege Catalonia for May since it’s the same beach. What buildings are the best in your opinion? Not sure if you can remember the numbers or names

Wait so no reservations for restaurants? I stayed at the Catalonia grand riviera maya and you booked your reservations as soon as you got there ? 🤷🏽‍♀️

Yeah they haven’t been horrible but depending the night and the restaurant it can get crazy! Have so much fun!
