Great to watch an expert at work. Are some fork oils better suited to certain manufacturer's than others ? Would you recommend changing the oil weight, from standard, for the warm weather that you have ?
@CatalystReactionSBW5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. Ohlins Oil is made for Ohlins products. KTech used Motul in all their dyno testing. Other brands recommend specific brands and weights. What you need to know is the viscosity index and the cSt (centistokes) number. Once you have that data you can find oils that are very close in performance and longevity.
@alanbrown55935 жыл бұрын
@@CatalystReactionSBW Dear Dave, thank you for the answer. I'll try a slightly lighter oil in the rr and see how it feels, I'll use a heavier oil when Scotland gets warm again, around 2022 probably. Again thank you for the informative video's. The difference in top out springs was interesting.

Dave.. I have a 2008 Yamaha royal star venture. I got the fork oil you suggested for my Venture, and I went to Yamaha specifications online to find out roughly how much oil each fork leg takes. The Yamaha official specifications say “there is no need to ever change the fork oil” How can they make that claim? What will happen inside the fork of all the people that go by that suggestion?
@CatalystReactionSBW Жыл бұрын
I've never heard of that before in an owner's manual. Astounding. Eventually, there will be so much metal in the fork that it could block all the orifices (depending on diameter) and the fork oil would turn to sludge.

@CatalystReactionSBW5 жыл бұрын
Dave Williams, editor, replying here. It's a Baxley Chock. Absolutely the best chock ever made, and like Mat Mladin, they know it. One of the MotoAmerica teams mounts the chocks to the floor of their transporter and just rolls the bikes into place. Job done. They don't tie down the bikes. It's that good.

Would you trust the spring rate calculator on racetech.com? I'm 140 lb rider on a 2007 CBR600RR. Stock for spring rate is 1kg/mm, recommended spring rate says 0.8kg/mm (street). Any suggestions on spring rate and fork oil weight?
