havent seen anyone try different angles and wanted to test. the results here are pretty straight-forward and not surprising, but i wanted to share anyway.
1. if you are launching and landing at a similar elevation, like sea level departure to sea level arrival, you are probably better off using an angled release, like 26 or 45 degrees, to get more height on the apex. depending on your biome, this steeper launch angle also helps clear obstacles like trees.
2. if you are launching from a high place and traveling to a low place, like mountain departure and sea level arrival, you are better off with a flat 0 degree release, for more forward speed. basically, the greater proportion of your flight that will occur after reaching the apex, the more that the initial speed improves your total distance. when you launch from a mountain, like 95% of your flight will occur after you have apexed and are coming down.
do not move when you are flying unless you are ready to land. if you move forward, back, or strafe, you will lose all bonus momentum and revert to normal movement. you can look around without impacting momentum.
