Bajos Del Toro, Costa Rica is known for its amazing waterfalls. Cataratas Las Gemelas is a set of double waterfalls, which makes two of six waterfalls, that you can hike to and swim at when visiting "The Blue Falls". The bright blue water and lush vegetation here is stunning.
Bajos Del Toro is a mountain town so the water here is a little colder than a lot of the swimming areas closer to the coast/beaches but, it wasn't too bad. There are 6 waterfalls and an additional pool (Poza Azul) for swimming in. You have to pay to access the trail to the falls, but we thought it was worth it. These are the names of the waterfalls (and swimming hole) in order going downstream.
Waterfall 1: Catarata Tepezquintle
Waterfalls 2 and 3: Cataratas Las Gemelas
Swimming hole: Poza Azul
Waterfall 4: Catarata La Celestial
Waterfall 5: Catarata La Turquesa
Waterfall 6: Catarata La Pintada

Hi! All these falls look great! Thanks for sharing! I'm just curious if you went to Rio Celeste and if so, how it compares? I'm thinking about scratching Celeste from our plans and just go to the Cataratas instead become these look awesome!

Thanks! We had Rio Celeste on our list but ended up not having time, so I'm not sure how it compares. We loved the falls here though, they are amazing. 🙂

Hi, Your Video is amazing! Great footages. May I asked how long it took you to do all 6 waterfalls? We have a trip planned in Jan. Wanted to stop here on our way from SJO to La Fortuna. All adults traveling.

Thanks! I think we spent about 3-4 hours between the short hike, swimming, taking videos, and looking at all the falls. If you were in a hurry you could probably get it done faster, or if the weather is nice you might want to stay a little longer.

Yeah, if you take your time to enjoy all the different waterfalls, swimming holes, and take pictures you can easily spend 3-4 hours. Especially if the weather is good.

Glad I came across your video. Were there any trail marks or how to reach the falls I don’t see any crowd to follow the trail path.

Hey! There were some trail markers so you'll know which falls are in which direction. There'll likely be a few other people you can follow as well, I just try not to get other people in my shots. When we were there, there was actually a few employees/guides helping people with directions and river crossings.

Fantastic video you guys depicting a great day of waterfalls discovery. I’m such a fan of waterfalls. Looks like a good amount of hiking per waterfall too. I’m going to be taking the family in august and I have a little one, 3 yrs old and a special carrier that she can be on my back for some of the hiking. Which one or two would you recommend that would be easy to moderate to get to? You’re allowed to swim in all of them?

Thanks! If you were just going to do one of the falls, I'd recommend Catarata Las Gemelas, which is the double falls. So it's actually two waterfalls next to each other. You can swim in both of them (the water is a little chilly but not too bad). If you have time for another one, Catarata Tepezquintle was my next favorite and you could swim in that one too. You can't swim in Catarata La Pintada since it's just a lookout and Catarata La Turquesa is a little more difficult to get to.

@@murphytravelsofficialHi, could you tell me how long/how steep is the trail to the Las Gemelas? Is it doable with 4&6 years old kids?
@murphytravelsofficial
@murphytravelsofficial 11 ай бұрын
Just to Las Gemelas, it's a little under a mile one way. It's not steep. The trail can be rocky, muddy, and once you're next to the river slippery. So, it really depends on how comfortable you and your kids are on that type of terrain.

@@aga03glo Our family of 5 just got back from our 10 day CR trip and we did the Baja del Toro visit on the first day before heading to the Carribean side. We did the Las Gemelas which is an absolute must and then the pozas azul. I have a 3, 13 and 15 yr old and this was perfect especially for the 3yr old. The teens could have easily done more if we had the whole day. I also had a “piggy back rider” for when it got tiring for my little one but she did great on her own for a while, holding hands. The walk is a good 20-25mins at a slow pace with a few slopes here and there. It’s fantastic to jump in the cold pool after the hike and the hike back was not bad at all if you do the Gamelas first, then the pozas azul so it seems like you’re getting a break. Do this first before going back to see the Cataratas del toro. It started to rain in the afternoon so we just saw it from the top and didn’t walk down to the bottom. But by that time we had our complete fill of the amazing blue falls and the blue pool and we were good to move on to Manzanillo

@@santzh6011 Thank You so much! I really appreciate your answer! We are also heading to the Caribbean Side ( Puerto Viejo) and then La Fortuna. In that case we will definitely give Las Gemelas a try! I was thinking to see the viewing points of the catarata del toro and not event thinking to decent to the bottom as that might be too much for them. We will try the La Fortuna and Rio Celeste first, depending how they do, we might reconsider ;) I'm thinking about purchasing some kind of carrier, but not a fan of the nice but bulky ones . Did you like the “piggy back rider”?

Hi! Awesome video! Did you have to pay to access the falls and is there just one main access point? Thank you!
@murphytravelsofficial
@murphytravelsofficial 4 ай бұрын
Hi! Yes, you have to pay to access the falls. There are two parking areas. One right in front of the access for these falls and one up the road about 300 feet at Catarata del Toro. You pay for access to these falls at the parking area for Catarata del Toro. You can choose between access to Catarata del Toro, Blue Falls, or both. If you're just doing the Blue Falls, you can drive to the closer parking or walk there after paying the access fee.

I think you should be able to get an Uber or taxi to this area. I used a rental car, so I'm not exactly sure how easy it would be to find an Uber here.
