Exactly, much of California’s infrastructure/streets are in disrepair or poorly repaired. Roads have collapsed in this tsunami like flooding which caused more destruction/perilous conditions. Catastrophic Earthquakes will cause massive destruction due to the terrible infrastructure conditions in California’s largest/overly populated cities

It is sad that most of this could have been avoided if California had done preventive maintenance on the levies and upgraded the infrastructure in these areas instead of spending tens of billions of dollars on a high-speed rail line that goes nowhere. I know that some levies are privately owned but they need to be inspected and repaired. The Army Corp of Engineers needs to step up also and upgrade these systems that have been untouched for a century.

Absolute truth. I own a home 100 yards from the Pajaro river but on the opposite side of the levee that broke. 0 maintenance has been done in decades. Sadly this is the case of the entire state with cities, counties, and state officials spending funds on headlining catching projects instead of working on basic infrastructure. Lipstick on a pig, too bad the pig has sepsis.

I will say this as a former Californian the amount of Snow, Rain, Fires, and Landslides have been relentless to say the least. California is a beautiful state and has such lovely beaches and forests. The state has long had issues with Overpopulation,Over Building on every place of land they can get their Greedy hands on. The state has freeway's that are constantly being expanded to no avail. The Landlords are Greedy and the Slumlords are too Lazy to fix anything. The homeless and the mentally ill are allowed to roam free because Former Governor Ronald Reagan closed down many of the State Hospital's and whatever drug treatment programs that were available starting in the late 1960's. The mentally ill and homeless CAN'T BE COMMITTED because it's their right to refuse treatment ( all the while defecating, urinating in the streets, and not only threatening people but actually doing it ). The crime rate is unreal ( my state of Washington also) and the suspects are caught then released like fish and then they go back out and commit more crimes. Nearly 800 inmates are on Death Row, and the current Governor won't expedite their executions so anyone on the streets know they won't be held accountable for their criminal actions. Let's NOT forget the Electrical Companies who fail to upgrade the power grids and Many Massive and Deadly Fires have broken out. The Politicians who practically gives away free money, food stamps,medical treatments,etc to anyone who lines up without checking their background ( I'm ALL FOR people needing help with rent, food etc just not the able bodied). The latest storms to hit California shows again that the current water will go to waste because they either won't or can't preserve the amounts. I'm sad about what happened and I wish the best of Luck To All !!

I watch and I learn. After seeing the government response to Katrina, the deadly San Bruno gas line explosion and the PG&E caused fires, I learned not to trust or count on our leaders and profit driven utility companies to do the right thing. We sold our price inflated California home when we retired, bought 4 rural acres and built an energy efficient home. We put in solar arrays that fully power our home and electric car. We kept a gas AWD for back up (we get some snow). This was our first year having chickens. Glad to have them due to the price of eggs or no eggs in the stores (shortages and highway closures keeping food trucks from coming in). Grow and raise some of your own food. You only have yourselves to rely on.

When I was a kid we were poor and went hungry a lot. We always planted our own gardens and had several chickens in our back yard. Now days most folks do not know how to do those things. Over a third of the population now lives in apartments that have no yard to do it. I am glad I am up in the age some fine day soon I am going to be looking down and saying bye bye.
