I clicked just to find out what a yabby is, here in the South Georgia US, we call em crawdads.

Funny but 50 yrs ago my stepdad took me and my 2 bothers to a pond. It was part of the river before the water would subside. We caught 110 fish using gigs by the time we left that day. He worked his ass off over the next 2 or 3 days prepping the bluegill, carp and catfish from that haul that day. He threw back a lot of gar that day we were out. Wish we would have gotten other things. But one turtle about 2 feet wide we got leaving that was crossing the road that day. I remember because it was actually about 1 fourth the size of our trunk at the time and he was worried it might destroy a lot of the fish we caught or gigged that day. Most preductive day of my life. I was about 14 at the time. Damn that was over half a centuary ago. God I feel so old all of a sudden. 😂❤

Koura heaven. Wouldn’t mind using them in some fancy entrée dishes. ie , with coconut cream, wild chives, sun bleached saffron and thyme - served with diced tomatoes and braised charlottes. Champion 🎉

I used to do a lot of yabbying over here in QLD. Working on a chicken farm I always used fresh chicken. Also I found moving the nets slightly every time was better than same place every time.

Aloha. I’m originally from Tasmania, but moved to the USA when I was three. Visited Australia for four months after high school and loved it. Mostly surfing, but got to try Tasmanian scallops as well as yabbis. Now I eat crawfish whenever I go down south. Very similar, different preparation.

I love watching a good haul of yabbies. A couple of suggestions. Many overseas watchers don’t know what a yabby is , (sounds like a skin disease) , so you might explain that they are a close relative of the US crawdads or freshwater crayfish. Also helps people from overseas to understand better if you speak a bit slower. Incidentally, US crawdads are caught mainly in states like Louisiana and due to original French influence there , they have some amazing recipes ,..check online.

Sorry. Looks good and tasty but here in Texas and Louisiana we of course boil ‘em up with red potatoes, corn on the cob and cajun spices. Can’t see battering them up like that. Love to come over and share the recipes. Mudbugs or crawdads is what we call them. I’m bettin’ you know that. Either way we’re eatin’ tasty bait. Great show!

How good are those 360degree gas cookers! I have one in a 3 day kit but ended up using it earlier this year during the floods. I used everything on it full fry pans, full sized pots of water. Saved my but big time. Such a small kit too. Nice video man.

Unbelievable! We used to pull these things out of our dam in WA - back in the day we called them gilgies. Never the amounts you get going there though. Might have to move back West......

be warned . we have been told by DPAW that opera house nets are a no no as it can trap our local turtles/tortoises and you can be fined for using them . the open top ones are fine

Aren't ALL the dams owned by farmers, ie. Private property ?? and wouldn't you need the owners permission to fish his dam ?? I'm sure a lot of farmers are 'protective' of their dam stocks....
