Field Trips with Robert Field

5 жыл бұрын

In this episode we're switching gears and heading inshore to fish a river for flathead, brim, whiting, trevally and cobia. The session starts off great when Mike hooks a trophy flathead on his second cast. Then we head back to camp to cook it up with one of Marty's special recipes.
COMMENT BELOW and tell me your favorite way to cook fish! Think you'd try the Doritos method?

@@YakFishField actually not an Eastern Brown Snake it is a small nocturnal species called a Golden-Crowned snake. They are a reasonably common species around the area u are. They are all bluff, striking and hissing with their mouth shout is their way of telling u to go away as they are mildly venomous not enough to send u to hospital. Mis-interpreting our native species results in the death of loads of native fauna. Tight lines keep the work up.

You're allowed to keep 1 over 70cm and while I would have encouraged them to release it this was possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity for them to catch and try flathead. The Macleay River is full of monster flsthead. My mate Brett who is in the boat in the video caught and released an 81cm flattie last week.

@@daniellawton9413 that is very true and there allowed to keep it just that would be a very important breeder for the system

@@doohanholstegge6616 taking 1 fish will not make a huge impact on the flathead population on the Macleay River. I fish the Macleay River every week, it's a very healthy system. I release just about every fish I catch in the Macleay River. The only time I kept a fish was a 103cm jewie that was gut hooked.

You can keep 1 over 70cm. Flatties as small as 35cm can also roe up so it's not just the large flatties that are the breeding females.

It's not just the big flatties that breed, even small 35cm - 40cm flathead roe up. The Macleay River is a very healthy system when it comes to flathead. A mate and I caught over 40 in a couple of hours and all were released.

mitchell apps so just because the guys from America caught a legal 76cm flattie they should have let it go. It’s not like they catch 70cm flatties every day. I fish this river every week, in the last 2 years I have kept 1 fish from the river, it’s a very healthy system.

Because we were camping and low on food. One fish between 12 blokes won’t hurt the local population.
