In the first of our species focused episodes of Andy May's Crash Course, he heads to The Old Hough Fishery in Middlewich near Crewe to catch roach on the pole. Multiple rigs, targeting fish through the layers is the aim of the day with natural baits such as maggots, pinkies and casters complimenting a groundbait mix that is certain to help Andy bag some winter roach.

Big roach, please Mr May. On a deep venue, or a pacey one. Which groundbait mix for getting it down to the bigger "roaches" and getting them feeding. Great, as always, your enthusiasm for our sport is phenomenal. Keep making vids, we will keep watching.

What about fishing a deep river or resovoir with a long whip for roach and skimmbobs. The mix you would use for deep, possibly flowing waters, that would hold the fish once fed.

Lovely fishing! Is there any reason why 13m is the distance you’re fishing, couldn’t you do same shirt to be more productive? Would love to see some big bream from Jumbles reservoir or huge roach from Lymm dam fishing. Thanks
@Sonubaits
@Sonubaits Жыл бұрын
Water clarity would determine the distance fished. No doubt later in the session a shorter line at 6m or so would have produced or in a few weeks when it warms up you'll likely catch there all day. But because it was frozen in the morning, still relatively clear by commercial venue standards, fishing a bit longer is a safer bet and 13m is just a nice comfortable length of pole to hold.

Andy,would you mix it up the night before using tap water, or mix it on the bank using lake water
@Sonubaits
@Sonubaits Жыл бұрын
It all depends how active or 'dead' you want the mix. For roach, on the day means you'll still have activity in the mix (hemp and other active ingredients pinging off the mix and attracting fish from up in the water layers). Often for bream or other big fish where an inert mix is required mixing up well in advance of the session can be effective as it allows the mix more time to absorb the water and all particles within to be completely soaked meaning they are less active.

Have you considered light hybrid elastic (4-6) in one section only instead of the slip?
@superbalaur1297
@superbalaur1297 Жыл бұрын
I have tried it and it’s thicker and slower to retract. Solid elastic is the best in winter/colder months.

Is a Pommy not a silver bream? An actual species, not a hybrid.
