Right? being on the ground allows you to put your entire weight on them vs just tiny strikes (conventional way of thinking about pressure points). The game has changed.

Takes me back to watching Erik Paulson Neckbreaker and CSW vids. Catch Wrestling is so fun, Jui Jitsu guys never think about driving your chin or elbow into the soft spots or resting your knee on an Achilles when a guy turtles. Sometimes a little pain makes the counter less obvious.

Very interesting. Everyone who does BJJ learns these setups in the basics classes. We then assume once the hand is in the thigh, it is time to move on to something else. Perhaps we just need to add a bit more pain to the mix :).

Thanks for the content! Currently training Judo and have been reading some old school books by Mikinosuke Kawaishi and his student Moshe Feldenkrais where they still advocated neck cranks (or dislocations as it's described) , leg locks, pain/pressure points etc. There's a local group training Catch Wrestling in my area, so definitely going to incorporate a weekly session once the world gets back on track.

I think I catch this and the inverse version as my main attack because once I get to side control I am setting up camp there until they get out by some miracle. These will help against the guys with huge arms.

I work the double wrist lock in any position I can. Side mount, standing, if a guy takes my back, you name it. It’s my favorite hold, it’s also the only one I know more than a couple of ways to lock in. (I do other locks of course give me a leg I take it. Catch as catch can take what you are given is literally the name of the game). I will stop grabbing my elbow now though. I can see where you can get more torque more easily by not grabbing it.

Mr. Joel, would you mind making a new video on tips for training and conditioning for catch wrestling? I recall there was a vid that was uploaded before but it was removed recently. If a vid is not possible, can you share a link or some thoughts as to how to go about conditioning/training oneself before/during learning catch? I vaguely recall in the removed video that it wasn’t recommended to “roll” everyday for an hour due to higher risk of injury and not to cut but rather count one’s calories; can’t recall much more beyond that. Sorry for the inconvenience. I actually posted this comment somewhere but removed it because I wanted to get straight to the point. Thank you and your team for your hard work on this channel, it’s appreciated

Here is Floyd Winter (2x Olympic Wrestling Coach, 1st American to win Gold in a Greco Roman World Championship, 2x National Champ Coach, Former National Champ in Greco and so much more) speaking about training. Modern Olympic/International Wrestling Strength and Conditioning is perfectly fine. Coach Billy Robinson always said there is no better conditioning than wrestling itself. I know that’s not the exact answer you’re looking for, but hopefully the simplicity of my response points you in the right direction. Thank you for your support always. 🙏🏻 - J. Snake pit you guys have a gym that is sanctioned in Tampa but I notice very heavy bjj influences at the gym. I trust the gym since you guys approve it but is there a way to know I’m learning pure catch and not a mix of bjj and catch. Not that I don’t respect bjj but I really want to learn pure catch. I’m a law enforcement officer and I need dominate top positions, controlling tactics and effective but semi safe takedowns for my job. I’m a boxer but I really want to learn catch. Hope you see this guys and thanks for the vids

Just one of the three basic Key Locks. This one of course coming off a Double Wrist Lock attack. The other basic key locks would come off of a Top Wrist Lock attack or a Bar Nelson from a Top or Crab Ride. 👍🏻 - J. Bane
