Recently acquired, this is the first Rhodes I've ever owned in my life. And man, it sounds sweet! I've got the Rhodes amped through my STAM Audio 1073, then feeding into the Strymon trifecta: Mobius, Timeline, Big Sky. The pitch warble is coming from the Mobius's "Vibe" setting.

Thanks everyone for checking out my video, I'm glad that so many people are digging it. Just to clarify a few things that people have been asking: 1. This is an improvisation, not a preconceived piece. 2. This is an incredible instrument, being enhanced by the warble and grit of the Mobius, coupled with some superb delay and reverb from Timeline and Big Sky, respectively. This Rhodes sounds great dry, too, but these FX really elevate the sound to something other-worldly. 3. You cannot sample this for your own compositions without permission (as the copyright is mine). Please visit www.j3po.net to submit inquiries. 4. Some folks have asked about hearing more of this music. I have two records out on streaming platforms under my artist name J3PO. 5. I don't have any solo Rhodes recordings out yet, but enough people have asked about it that I may record a bunch of improvisations on this instrument and upload to Spotify for your listening pleasure. Peace, J

What a beauty that instrument is! You're a lucky man! I've got a simple, yet meaningful request to you: Could you upload a video where you play some jazzy-minor 7th and 9th chords? (without any melodic elements) I would love to sample them and build a LoFi-House track around it!

Absolutely. If you don't know him, you might enjoy the the Rhodes based minimal Japanese 'ambient' music of Hiroshi Yoshimura. His brilliant album Music for Nine Postcards (1982) explores that soundworld. You can hear it from the very first two tracks, Water Copy and Clouds. It's a beautiful album. Really makes me want a Rhodes (or failing that, a Vintage Vibe, Wurlitzer 200 or even a Hohner Pianet T). I also feel the same about well played nylon guitars. Especially the rest stroke, and tremelo playing techniques sounds like teardrops / streams of water droplets. And I suppose the harp too, though it's a bit more piano like in it's deeper bass.

True, but it’s also possible they no longer own the rights to manufacture it again and don’t feel cutting a new deal is cost-effective. It’s probably cheaper to just license the sampler sound to Roland or Yamaha and let them integrate it into their keyboards.

Fender doesn't own the rights anymore, they sold to Roland in the 80s, and Harold Rhodes got the company back in the mid-90s I think? They made the mark 7 in 2010ish, didn't do much after that. I know Vintage Vibe makes a Rhodes-style electromechanical tine piano, but I think they might be the only game in town at this point.

Middle-age me having that last exchange with my childhood friends as the final traces of sunlight disappear behind the mountains and skyscrapers. The dinner is over, and we are at the parking lot. There's a chilly breeze, and we all shudder in our coats and jackets; some of us tug our scarfs tighter. We share one last laugh and bid farewell to each other. I get in the car; looking in the rearview mirror with a gentle smile in a sign of relief and wistful thinking: glad to have caught up and see them doing alright, but knowing fully well that we won't see each other in decades to come. The song is still playing in the car as the city lights slowly begin to dominate the skyline, and the moment becomes a new memory to cherish from the dusty drawer of nostalgia.

@@jassingh3208 Japanese city pop is directly influenced by jazz and disco. What he's playing is more along neo-soul. Its to get the different genees confused if you don't consciously listen to the music as they point use pretty jazzy progressions, but Japanese city pop still follows some more standard progressions than the stuff he was playing.

I love the sound. It’s very nostalgic from the 70s. It’s got a dreamy sound. However the machine itself is only part of it. The player is really what made it sound so great. Excellent hands on the keyboard. I wish I had such talent.

Ain't no thang like the real thing, that is all I can say. However, the Nord Nefertiti Rhodes library is for sure my first choice when I don't have the real thing and I'm playing live. The Nord is a really fantastic keyboard, and I love it. In terms of software, Spectrasonics Keyscape holds the prize for sampled Rhodes, by a very large margin. Hope that helps!
