Catching COBIA (Ling) Around HUGE Anchored Container Ships | EVERY CAST!!

Ive NEVER Seen Cobia thick like they were this day. Every Ship we fished had at-least 4 or 5 fish around them. Most were little on the small side but we still managed to get some decent keepers in the box and was also able to tag and release 3 with tags that I received from the University Of Southern Mississippi Tagging and Research program. We were using live croakers for bait and casting around the Bow and Stern of these anchored ships. A friend of mine has that same landing net. It drives me crazy trying to net a sizeable fish with it. It's way to shallow of a net feels more like a pool skimmer than a landing net. I like a deep net so once the fish is in it you van lift vertically instead of trying to scoop them in the boat. That looked like a blast! Hoping to get some cobia this spring when they come my way.

Thankyou, and yes outside of mobile bay around 9-10 miles offshore there is an anchorage zone. There’s usually always atleast 4 or 5 ships out there

I would consider fishing around the Red and Green Channel Ship channel bouys. They will hold cobra sometimes as well

You can catch nice Spanish mackerel, bluefish, specks , jacks and a lot of other species of fish around the nearshore rigs trolling or free lining live shrimp or croakers

@@CaptCollier Gothca sorry in the panhandle and thanks for tagging those fish as I’m sure you know the cobia populations over the past 10 years have almost been completely wiped out, nothing wrong with keeping 6 as it’s the Alabama law but we’re 2 per boat here which is helping I hope, sad to see growing up you’d see schools of 30 going down the beach, now your lucky to see two a day

I was just about to click like when I think you said you released another fish cuz it was still alive so you can catch another one. The way you said it and how I saw the video it seem like you would put that fish in the cooler and then let it go. If that's the case I don't like it at all. I may be wrong
