Catching Flathead On Flathead Lures!

Gday everyone and welcome back. In todays video i took advantage of the good weather and headed out to spot in hopes of getting onto a few flathead on flathead lures.

Rod - Shimano T-curve premium, 7 foot 2, 2-4kg
Reel - Shimano Vanford 2500
Lure - FLATEDGE80 from southern edge lures
Line - 8lb power pro ( colour white )
Leader - 10lb Shimano Ocea

It is not only the quality of your videos, it is the challenges you set yourself and the use of a myriad of soft plastics and hard bodied lures. Another informative, instructional and entertaining video. I am sure my nephew will be sharing this one with his son as I introduced them to your channel a while a go. Yeah maybe that water being so dark made them change colours a bit. And yeah no shortage of em. If all meat stocks run out at the shops I know where I’ll be goin🎣

Hi Josh, excellent vid and presentation. I just came across this and am super-impressed with you, especially as you seem quite young. All the info, mixing it up in your narrative, and none of the really annoying "yeew, frothing, and fake over-excitedness" so many others do. Keep going mate and you will one day make a living from this I believe. I will watch your other content soon to see if this is a one-off or it is the usual high quality from you. Hey mate, those plastics are absolute fire🔥 my great uncle used to fish flathead comps in Northern NSW where I am from. and all he used was those, which he made with his own moulds, he made them in a motor oil colour and they are fantastic. Although I cannot go past a 95mm double clutch, scored me my pb of 93cm.

There ya go. So these lures are kinda like tournament lures. Very interesting. And yeah you can’t go past the double clutch. The 95mm scored my pb flatty of 94cm

G’day Josh, I have some very similar flathead soft plastic lures as well, they work a treat mate. I love using them but as you noticed they do get damaged fairly easily. Thanks for doing such a great job with your channel. Cheers

Yeah the material they are made with is quite bad. No wear near as tough as say your zman or daiwa plastics. And thanks for the support mate. The channel is growing well :)

Yeah I was aware they are cannibal. But it surprised me how keen there were to eat there own kind🤣 And it’s funny how they were all around the same size. I wonder if I used like a 6-7inch soft plastic flathead if it would catch the bigger sized ones🤷

Really impressive range of videos, and made to look so straightforward ! 👍👏...2 questions if I may...(1) where did u get the imitation flatly baits as we couldn't find any links & (2) re ur location - I know fishos are protective of their locations, however is that private property around the north coast of nsw?...I'm syd based so an incredibly jealous of the available fish in the system,..keep up the good work

Another excellent video. On the subject of lures have you tried the Inu rig? A worm lure but rigged in a unique fashion. I'm tempted to rig one & see if Bream, Fathead or Whiting are interested. It's primarily a Bass lure. A shame larger Flathead were not caught to show conclusively that quality fish will take the bait. Thanks for sharing.

Hi mate The flathead lures work well at times. The question I have is what do you think of the t curve rod? I was looking at the 1-4kg 782 long cast yesterday but thought I would wait and look at a few more before I shell out $500 on a rod. I currently have atomic arrows 2-6lb and 6-14lb rods. Keep the videos coming your doing a great job with the content that you are providing.

Hey mate I don’t blame you for wanting to know as much info as you can before you blow $500 on a rod. Well I currently use the 2-4kg 7 foot rod. So I can’t give you an accurate feel for the type of fishing you are doing since I’m using it in the estuaries. It’s a great rod though, super light, incredible sensitivity and very durable. Haven’t had an issue with it so far😄 have a look on the shimano KZfaq channel on there video on it. Might help you make a decision weather you wanna get it or not

Use a lighter jighead. And work it slower so it stays close to the bottom

Flathead are cannibals. I've caught them a couple of times where they've spat out smaller ones. They're a beast predator. They'll eat anything that moves

@@joshdfishing didn't catch anything today bro. I was using weedless hooks which stopped all snags but I think it badly impacted on hookups too. I'm super new to lure fishing and still new to the area I fish so it's a learning process. I found a creek with bream but I was there around 12 and they didn't seem keen. What time would be best for bream in a creek ,m
