What make and size is the circle hook for king fish please?

Once you drop the live bait down, are you trolling, or do you sit and wait for a bite.

Hey mate if we’re deep dropping the livebait we will find the fish on the sounder then drift on to the spot, drop the bait and wait for a bite as we’re slowly drifting over the spot. You can also use this baiting technique for slow trolling a livebait, for slow trolling you would be in more shallow water or trolling closer to the surface. If slow trolling you would decrease your sinker size to 2-3 ounces and trolling at 1-2 knots. Hope that helps mate.

I have trouble using this method with the sinker overtaking the bait and the leader twisting up the mainline, is it just a case of using lighter sinker and deploying slower? ideas?

Hi Tim if you’re slow trolling or deep dropping the sinker should be above swivel. For deep dropping we usually use a 6-8 ounce sinker and For slow trolling a 2-3 ounce. For both methods the boat will be on the drift. For slow trolling we deploy the baits slowly so they don’t twist and move the boat at 1-2 knots. For deep dropping unusually this the bait and sinker out so they drop in different parts of the water to keep a little line separation. If the bite leader is twisting around the mainline try deploying more slowly to begin with. Hope that helps.

Hi I depends on the depth the fish are at. You want to drop the livebait to where the fish are showing on the sounder. The sinker will help you get it there. If the fish are near the surface you can put out the livebait without a sinker. I’ve done this often. Good luck.

Using Kahawai, does the hook go into the same area?

Hi Jack for small kahawai yes but larger kahawai you’ll need to use use the bridle rig technique because the space between the eyes with a kahawai is wider than a jack mac. Hope that helps mate. Mandy
