in the Netherlands we use a second gate barrier (sluice) to prevent this. But not long ago they started to use OCR number plate recognition to detect or the vehicle with the given ticket has paid. But because it’s only a front camera they can use the back numberplate for a second vehicle.

Perhaps you were following at an unreasonably close distance. If a person is following too closely, the farthest thing from someones mind might be whether the person following them has a season pass. It may have to do with staying back a reasonable distance, that's all.

I have seen lots of vehicles tailgating at the car park... one of the videos shows the Mc Donald delivery and the motorist, I was there and I saw them tailgating... I was shock to see that they avoid themselves just not paying the money...

What about motorcycles? I have been riding for years and for many years they have promised cardless payment which is great I have signed up for vcashcard which was supposedly going to be implemented for all HDB carpark very soon but that very soon was like 5 years ago? I have lost so many cashcard I thought signing up for vcashcard means I don’t need the cashcard anymore. So yes no need for ERP & some shopping centres but I always get stuck at HDB estate without a cashcard that I have to push my bike out of the side path....

It's so sad that this is necessary. Because some people cheat we have to put in multiple cameras, detection systems, etc. All that costs money, which WE pay in our parking fees. If people would be honest it would be cheaper for everybody. I know it sounds idealistic. But this is all about education and how we raise children.

Easy solution, just stop after going through & wait for the boom gate to drop . Sure the motorist behind will be furious when the gate hits their car, but serves them right !!

If you suspect someone is tailgating you to not pay, go very slowly and get them trapped. Problem solved.

Double gate is not easy to implement. How far away should 2nd gate be? Must be far enough so that the whole vehicle can fit in. Lorries may not fit in. Anyway, only a few incalcitrant cheapos are guilty of this. Educate them instead, with heavy fines.

Having system like this to detect tailgaters only shows how hungry they are for the fines. Y not spend $ and technology like the erp system on expressway that deduct $ fast and efficient that don't need any barrier arms to operate.
