Excellent shots Ben of a machine that tends to hide itself away in where it works most of the time, (rubbish dumps and the like), consequently they don't get filmed much. You said in a reply to me earlier there were no scrapers in Germany, other that those 3 'auger' ones. So can I presume these are 'Hired In' machines, or did they win the contract for that particular job as surely VINCI are a French company, although they are not restricted to France in their work. In fact I saw some of their machinery in this Country a little while ago.

That is a soil compactor.Cat does make a model with chopper wheels for landfills to chop up the garbage bags and compacts the trash at the same time.

I saw a model smaller of this compactor use its dozer blade to build a ramp so scrapers could go down a hill to start a fill. At first I couldn't figure out what they were doing, then it dawned on me that they are building an on ramp onto the new expessway they are building. In america those same scapers have and engine in front like these and one in back. But they work in pairs. One pushes the one in front till he is loaded, then there is a hook that comes down to pull the one in back. It is called a Push-Pull system.

I know the double engine scrapers. A company owned two of them. Sold them in the late 1990s back to the US where they are still working. Sadly one of them was out of service while my visit: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m6hkZNWLxt3GlIk.html
