ABOUT ME:
Thanks for visiting my channel, I hope you enjoyed the video! I founded Caterpillar Cross Stitch in 2015 when I tried desperately for months to find a modern baby sampler my mum could stitch for new baby Felicity that would fit in with her simple, contemporary nursery. I love cross stitch, running, baking fruit cakes, drinking gin, eating salted caramel ice cream and most crafts!
See you soon and happy stitching! Sally x

Just want to say I appreciate the camera work, lighting, conciseness, and clear diction in your video. So many crafting channels have less than ideal equipment so it makes seeing those necessary details difficult.

This was sooo incredibly helpful!!! I warned a really nice close up of a how to make a pin stitch. Your lighting and closeup of the stitch was sooooooo helpful! I am stitching on Aida with one thread and there have been so many confetti stitches I am dragging my thread all over the place to secure it. I’ve been hating this project…truthfully. Now I am hoping to start enjoying it with my newfound knowledge. Thank you!

I am a relatively new stitcher . My history is I learned stitch about a year and a half ago, but I only stitched for a few months. Then I completely abandoned it. I re-started a month ago and actually finished a sizable project just last night. I have been floating in a huge ocean of Confusion to a degree, but it is gratifying to know that I have been using the waste away stitch at the end and the loop method to start my stitching without even knowing what they were called. I give credit to a Korean channel called stitch, bug back. Although she does not speak in English at all, or even have English subtitles, by watching her videos closely, I was able to adapt her styles. Thank you for such clear explanations.

Hey Marie! Thank you for the tutorial. When I work on Aida I will certainly apply these principals. Can you do a tutorial on ending a stitch on even weave without turning the work? Does that exist? Thanks!
@jylromain6439

I use the waste tail but to cut down on waste, as long as I'm coming back with the same color, I make half stitches with it. That way when I start stitching again, I'm stitching over the thread but it's also being used rather than wasted. By doing a couple of stitches to the left and then coming down a row and doing a couple of stitches to the right, that tail is nicely tucked in when I stitch over it..

Thanks for your last 2 videos - they've been really helpful and both taught me something new. I wonder which end technique you'd recommend for a full coverage, where there are lots of confetti stitches? I'm doing a HAED, one over one on 25 count and find it really hard to end a thread without a knot...
@CaterpillarCrossStitch
@CaterpillarCrossStitch 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Keeley, thank you so much for watching 😊 One of my current WIPs is also a 25ct 1x1 full cross HAED so I feel your pain! I would definitely recommend the waste away thread technique because with full coverage you will end up easily covering it around. If you can, try not to leave the confetti stitches for the very end so you'd still stitch around. If you did, then I would recommend learning the pin stitch underneath the single stitch technique but you will need a very sharp needle (DMC size 28 is pretty sharp despite being tapestry needle and a good choice for this). A thin needle also helps to weave the thread on the back of the project without needing to knot when pin stitch is not an option 😊 Happy stitching 🌸 Marie

But how do you keep the threads from loosening when washing if not knotted? Hand washing requires agitation so wouldn’t it start to come undone?
@dexlovesgames_dlg
@dexlovesgames_dlg 4 ай бұрын
These are machine washable and won't come undone?? I have tried to the weave in method under several stitches, and it comes out with a simple pull. If i'm trying to do cross stitch onto clothes that are going to brushing up against stuff, i imagine these wont do the trick, except the pin stitch method but is there no tie-method that guarantees thread security?

What do you do with the non-loop end (the open end of the thread)? I put the needle through the loop and pull tight and the thread just slides out of my needle 🤬
@CaterpillarCrossStitch
@CaterpillarCrossStitch Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question - this mostly comes with experience to be honest but here’s my best tips 😊 Leave a long enough tail so that the thread doesn’t slip out so easily. I also noticed that when I’m pulling needle, I started holding the eye of the needle with my ring finger. Just gently pressing the thread against the needle which is enough to keep it from unthreading 😊 You can also tie the thread on the eye of the needle but I wouldn’t recommend it - it severely damages the thread and the knot coming through the fabric makes stitching more difficult! Hope this helps 😊 Happy stitching 🌸 Marie
