Discover the Cathedral Tree Trail and Astoria Column in Astoria, Oregon! SUBSCRIBE to our channel (it’s FREE) for more travel adventures. 👇 More info in the description below.
There are two entrances to the Cathedral Tree Trail: (1) Irving Avenue (2) at the Astoria Column. We started at Irving Avenue. The hike to Cathedral Tree is only 0.3 miles. The tree is over 300 years old and stands over 200 feet high.
We then hiked uphill to the Astoria Column. The total distance hiked is 2.5 miles round trip with 530 feet of elevation gain. The Astoria Column was built in 1926 and is 125 high. There are 18 scenes from Oregon's history depicted on the column.
We saw a rough-skinned newt on the side of the trail. They are found in the coastal forests of the Pacific Northwest. They are toxic which deter animals from eating them.

That Astoria Column is super neat to see! I like how they had the ages of the fallen trees, I wish the Smokies did that, I see so many trees that I wish I knew the age of! Enjoyed this video!

Good evening all of you 👩‍❤️‍👨 Nice big tree and the roots are really awesome! Looks like a tree from the Amazon forest , I have KZfaqr French friends that are in Florida now and uploaded a video last Friday and there was a enormous tree in Palm Beach that was brought there many year ago from Amazon forest . Their name is "Curieux Nomades" Alex take a look you will see and they are a very nice couple . That column was pretty nice with all the history draw around it ...to bad you couldn’t go up ☹️ Little man was so cute ...all the faces he makes...😂🤪 our little son is 7 and he is adorable but we can’t see him or hug him because of the covid Have a great week my dear friends H&S 👩‍❤️‍👨🌈🇨🇦👍😉

that is one beautiful hike. I just love the PNW. I have got to see more of Oregon itself. Thank you for showing us another great hike. I love to hear your son talk about nature. Love that forest, so lush and then the water view is incredible. Those old trees are stunning to see. And the newt was amazing. That mud was well worth going through. I'm finally back on You Tube publishing some videos too, thank you for giving me motivation.

Nothing like a good mud hike................every once in awhile. Looked like someone else had fun climbing through the tree too beside little man. LOL. Now......this video brings back memories for me. Astoria was the first KZfaq video I published back in 2016. We were on a cruise that stopped in Astoria for the day. As Brian G Johnson would say, It is a very cringe worthy video done before I know anything about making and editing videos. But, made some good memories that day in Astoria. Didnt see any of the Goonies though. LOL.

I love your anecdote Lance. Thank you for sharing how Astoria played an important role in the start of your KZfaq channel :D It was a very good hike and those I like - going uphill on the way in, going downhill on the way back. We didn't see any Goonies either. Maybe next time! LOL Thanks so much Lance!

That trail sure was lush and nice and easy to follow. Amazing age of some of those fallen trees and it looked like a fun place to climb some of the live trees too. The Column itself looked real impressive and I loved all the painting all the way to the top. Cheers Alan

Wow guys that's a really cool Trail! You can't go wrong with hiking in the Pacific Northwest honestly. That tree was super cool with all the moss on it and it was humongous. I really like that shot where little man was walking over the roots of the tree going uphill! The Astoria Column was super cool looking as well. I like the way Evan edited this video because he kinda changed it up a little bit. I can't really put my finger on it but I think he might have added more background noise and lowered the music at the right times. Anyways great video guys!

That was a great trail. The fun thing about this trail was that it is right in the middle of town! You would hardly know because the forest is so dense and we couldn't hear traffic. You're right, he added more background noise and some comments he would usually cut out. Maybe we are becoming more interesting to be listened to 😜😂 One more spot to add to your list. It was the first time we visited and will probably visit it again. Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment Eric (as always!)
