This award was richly deserved. I've seen "The Quiet Girl" four times now and every viewing leaves me more impressed with Miss Clinch's performance. And she's in pretty well every scene from start to finish. I saw the film again at a local film festival a couple days ago, and you could sense the audience holding its collective breath during the scene in the Kinsellas' car when Cait guardedly answers Eibhlin's questions about what Una asked her, and then let's drop the big secret. There was also applause when the end credits rolled. Can't remember the last time I saw a movie and that happened. A great and beautiful film, and a wonderful film for Father's Day!

Why didn't her mum (?) let her say anything? I mean, maybe after sobbing a bit, something would have come out, even just a simple and tearful "Thank you". It would have been better than her mum's standard and absolutely meaningless statement. The poor girl actually seemed like wanting to say something at some point, but was just cut off.
