It is just humor. Sometimes we Americans become so sensitive about how we are perceived by others in the world that we live up to all the negative stereotypes. In "The Day of The Doctor" there was a sly remark about the United States that I thought was humorous. "Have you seen their movies?" referring to why America didn't have a time travel device and the British did.
@ronspeer9 жыл бұрын
I know. I am rather easy going, no matter what happens. :)

Helena A Americans insult Brits. Brits insult Americans. Some of us get super uptight about it and some of us don't care. Humor is humor.
@krashd8 жыл бұрын
+Blue Sky I'm not sure what a big trigger is for Americans, but what really pushes a Brits buttons is belittling us even though we know we are no empire anymore, the British Empire is gone, facing up to that from 1948 to 1998 is half of the reason we do great comedy - if we can't laugh at ourselves then we have no right laughing at anyone else. Some Americans however feel a need to impress on everyone everywhere that no matter what is being discussed the US is #1 at it - If a breakthrough is made in chalk, an American child will try to remind everyone in the room how the USA somehow invented writing. Somehow. Watching a video about the Rosetta lander and seeing a post like "LULZ WE DID TEH MOON IN 69!!" pushes buttons. Thankfully it also reminds us how a lot of America's youth are growing up to be dangerously stupid, something that Washington should get a handle on while they still can. That's why I would vote democrat if I had to live there, more thinkers and doers, less preachers and profiteers.
@ronspeer8 жыл бұрын
+Rob Fraser, I'm not sure it's a problem Washington can fix. It's the attitude. We have more access to information than previous generations ever had and yet we seem to prize ignorance above all else. It's not just the United States. It's in Britain. It's in France. It's in Germany. But it seems to be more prevalent in the US.
@margotmargot4426 Жыл бұрын
@@krashd and you'd do right, at least as the "stupid youth" you mention is concernced, certainly better from your viewpoint to preach children-hate and abortion than preaching an entity who loves you no matter what.

@barrysteven5964 Жыл бұрын
Yes, it's one of those times when we've taken an American word and adopted it in a specific way. We use the word 'fries' but just for the very thin chips you get in places like McDonalds. We can call them chips too. But the bigger ones you'd get with fish and chips for example you'd never call fries unless you wanted to get laughed at. Similar thing with 'cookies'. We use that word to describe a particular kind of biscuit that is bigger and usually softer than a normal biscuit.
