This is funny that you mention this, as I too sing this at night to my 6 yr old when he can't sleep, as he is afraid of the dark. I tell him there is nothing to fear as we have God and our Lord Jesus Christ in our hearts, and in our home. Once I start to sing, he starts to relax and falls asleep in no time, so peacefully.
