Some of the nicest people I've ever met have been extremely Catholic ppl in my comedy/theatre groups in high school and college. Multiple different unrelated people! And I'm a transgender atheist

Surprisingly, I've heard that response as well from another Catholic when I asked if I (a non-believer) would go to hell... "we don't know, only God knows that". I found it quite humble - I'm not used to that from religious folk.

It's a small step honestly. I've had christians tell me "oh you're going to hell for that" like a reflex, and others say "i don't know". There are christians that want people to go to hell, and I just wish that there weren't people who have that sort of thing in their mind. Being taught an easy way to say "I think this person (maybe even me!) deserves eternal torment" starting as a young child does weird things to people imo.

religious people are just people. some are nice some suck. my family is really not big on religion at all, they just go to church during christmas. me and my brother are very openly atheist/agnostic, and one of my sisters is very religous and married a man who's family is very traditional and religious. can still crack jokes with my brother in law and have some cool discussions about faith, moral and philosophy. it's just about being neither stuck up nor disrespectful.

To be technical having same-sex attraction is not the issue, we don’t really have control over that, what we do have control over is what we do with that attraction. The best thing you can do though is figure things out, as if Christ is who he says he is nothing else matters, and if he isn’t, then nothing else matters.

I’m Native American, I grew up going to both catholic church and longhouse services… historically, humor was always one of our most important survival tools. Ndn Catholics’ sense of humor is dark like our ancestor’s hair on the boarding school floors. That resentment towards the church just becomes more and more of a joke.

That’s one of the reasons why I love GK Chesterton so much as a Catholic, the man never took himself too seriously but always took the things that were important very seriously, and that I think is the attitude we should all drive for, Christ on the cross is a Very serious subject, but God also made the platypus which is an inherently absurd and hilarious creature.

Catholics by and large are not relaxed than most Protestant sects. Even the inquisition was mostly "please repent and promise to be a good Catholic henceforth" and if you did they let you go (and kept eyes on you). The Protestants just tortured you until you confessed to being a witch and then burnt you. Or they burnt you for not confessing. But I wouldn't leave any kids alone with either a priest or a minister.

Regardless of whatever faith you do or don't have, we can all stand to laugh at ourselves a bit more. I know Gianmarco is way more likely to have chill people in his audience anyway, because of who he is and his comedy, but I kinda hope that my generation (I'm about the same age as those guys) and the next ones will continue to head in more of that direction in general.

I'm just wondering which production company was producing the Catholic children show. There used to be a Christian production company called Pax that made shows in Canada. I was a special extra on one show called Doc starring Billy Ray Cyrus. He was nice. Another Pax show was Sue Thomas Private Eye. I actually liked that show. The star was deaf and it was an crime action show. Pax made fluff but it was fun fluff.

Growing up in the Catholic Church, we were taught that only God knows who is going to Heaven and we also have Purgatory which is like a cool waiting place, so like you can pray for "okay" people to move from Purgatory to Heaven😂. It's a pretty welcoming and pragmatic perspective. That said, the Church is very problematic imo when it comes to sex, sexuality and allowing women in positions of power. 🤷‍♀️ Obviously, it was evil in covering up sex crimes against children.

I remember when a small group leader in my college church group stepped down bc she slept with someone. Since I was still enmeshed in christianity at the time, it made sense to me. Pretty wild looking back on it now
