I’m a prodigal who was raised Presbyterian. Stopped going at 18. Now I’m 48 and doing RCIA. I read “Hail, Holy Queen” last week, and my mind is on fire. I’m thinking about scripture in a way I never have. The Holy Spirit opened my heart. Dr. Hahn and this podcast have been a major part of opening my eyes and ears - you are a blessing to the rest of us. Thank you for what you do.

Actually it sounds SCARY to me. He's been saying that since he first stepped out on the Balcony at St. Peter almost 11 years ago now. Don't know but he gets WORSE every day, not better!!!! Prayers can only go so far...as far as the individual you pray for will allow. I'm not saying don't pray for him but that him asking you to do so it's kind of dubious....does he REALLY mean it??!!! I do not see humility there my friend. Otherwise, he would've gotten better, not worse in the last 11 years!

@@archangelliii2536i would say trust God and let it to Him. You’re being judgmental but you cannot see the heart of the Pope. Only God can see it and judge if it’s humble or not. As a Christian we should love and pray for our enemies- and he ist our Pope !!! you would deny a prayer for because he doesn’t do as you wish or think he should? A little bit concerning… God knows the whole plan. You don’t. So don’t join the unChristian hate pouring out at the Pope. Please. God bless you

@@tabularasa164 You either didn't read the whole thing or you are obsessed with this Pope. Only God judges the heart...we all know that. BUT, we can certainly judge ACTIONS and quite frankly his actions speak much louder than his words! All I said is based exclusively on what Bergoglio has done as Pope my friend, nothing more, nothing less. His record speaks for itself. From the PachaMama debacle/heresy to him getting rid or ignoring of good sheperds like Cardinal Raymond Burke, or Fr. Frank Pavone or Bishop Fernandez of Arecibo, PR for opposing Pope Francis mandate on the demonic vaccine, etc. while at the same time embracing and supporting disciples of Satan like Pelosi or biden(and condoning giving SACRILEGEOUSLY the Holy Communion to them or other abortion supporters!) or "father" James Martin with his publicly scandalous heretic and evil promotion of sodomy and naming pedophiles and pro-sodomy and abortion people and clergy to high office at the Vatican, etc., etc. The list goes on and on. I also pray for him. I pray for his conversion and his removal from the Papacy for the sake of the Bride of Christ. @@archangelliii2536i recommend you to read my comment again and tell me, where I said you said the Pope is not the Pope. As well, as I only said do not join the hatred spreading Catholics and not, that you spread hatred. I just pointed out that you judge the Pope - cause you do 🤷🏻‍♀️ Really, read my comment again. But maybe when you calm down. Why I say it? The capital letters and exclamations are usually a sign for shouting out loud aka anger. I’m a weak human, just as you are and I have days when I react to some comments the way you do now. Not that extremely but yet. This happens usually, when I pray less. But this is my personal discernment about myself. Just an idea for you to try to contemplate why my peaceful comment stirs your emotions. You can ask the Holy Ghost for help.

Grateful to be back in the church, which my family left when I was 9, at 52. Hubby is not onboard… but that’s ok, loving Christ is making me better at loving others. We’ll get there… and even if we don’t, the mass, prayer, practices and disciplines of my faith make me hopeful that as the lone practicing Catholic in our house, I can endure. Plus, my sweet husband of 17 years has agreed to be married in the church! So grateful to God!

Scott Hahn came to Limerick in Ireland in 1996. I went to hear him talk and thought to myself that I had to get to Steubenville. I went to speak to Scott afterwards and told him that I would love to go to study in Steubenville. He said that I should do it. I was 31. Teaching. Had my own house. But by the Grace of God, 3 weeks later I was sitting in my first class in Steubenville. Scott Hahn was the lecturer in my first ever class there. I lived around the corner from Scott and Kimberley. I loved my year there. I learnt so much and it was so great to be steeped in Catholic culture. Thank God for that opportunity.

Forgiving one’s parent was discussed in this interview. I’m in my late 60s. I spent almost my entire life trying to come to a place where I could forgive my parents. I have a brother who’s in his mid-70s and a sister also in that age range. My sister has come close to forgiving my parents, but my brother still struggles with it. I turned the lens of compassion on my parents a long time ago. My father passed over 30 years ago, and my mother passed more than 10 years ago. They suffered from PTSD. They were born and lived in a time when there was a little understanding of what trauma did to people. As a result, they were not able to understand that they needed to restrain their behavior. They traumatized each and everyone of their children; of which there were six. Each of them has walked through this life with some sort of baggage. I don’t think the individual can come to a place where they can force themselves to truly forgive. This act of forgiveness took me almost until the age I am now. I agree that through prayer and loving Christ, while trying to understand that his teaching brings one to a place where forgiveness is possible. This is true forgiveness however. It’s not intellectual. This is where, when one recalls the things that happened to them, they no longer relive the suffering. For me, if I think about them and various history, which I do from time to time, it’s more as if the things that happened to me actually happened to someone else. I’m not in denial. I’ve just moved on. I think I’ve experienced enough healing in my own life that I can now attend to other things. It’s a freeing thing as people have often spoken of, about forgiveness. But it’s freeing in this respect, one is now free to no longer be dogged by the trauma they endured years before, and they are free to live their lives as each day comes.

I’m so glad I heard this conversation. It struck me while listening that these two men, despite their evident intellectual prowess and knowledge, also share deep personal humility. This seems to me to be a increasingly rare and under valued quality these days. Dr Hahn is always inspiring and I felt Matt was the perfect interviewer. From his own humility and experience he was able to ask just the right follow-up questions. Thank you both so much for enriching my morning. (From a Scottish Glaswegian in England)

"Why don't we get taught that?" I say the same thing about training workers. It is as if we just want to get them through so they can be functional not proficient. It is the sad truth with our system of reaching a sacramental milestone in the church. It is sort of a graduation to get to Confirmation. Everything else is grad school. It should never feel as if we are done. it is a lifelong journey. Thank you Dr. Hahn for your books. They have opened so much to my understanding of our faith.

The church was underground until a convert, the mother of the Roman emperor convinced him to legalize the worship even though he wasn’t converted yet? Do you even history bro? The Bible you read was butchered by the fathers of your church, you don’t have a full Bible, you are missing books. Without St Jerome you wouldn’t even have that butchered Bible to read, without the printing press the Book would still be tied to the altar so that people wouldn’t steal it to sell because it took years for monks to painstakingly copy it.

I am praying for our “TradCats;” those young traditional Catholics who want to personally correct for those of us who fell away into the disordered lives that were informed by the failures of the ideology of the “me first” sexual revolution. We (catholic men especially) dropped the ball big time and failed our society by our selfish motives. However we can support this fledgling group of young marrieds in their efforts to turn this around and fix the mess we all made I am all for.

Unfortunately this conversation has the negative trait of most deep Catholic conversations. It completely ignores us single Catholics who are not married (have no kids either). Everything is always focused on marriage to the point of excluding those of us who do not get to experience it. It’s never in history been harder to date while sticking to Catholic values, but don’t expect the Catholic public figures to do anything to include those of us who are in that boat. It gets very hurtful after a while.
