@@kyliedavid7604 The thing is Catriona is not made overnight. Her values and whatever she believes in was honed for years already. It must come from a deeper place especially when subjected in pressure packed situations like the Miss Universe competition, you will always rely on your core. Diamonds are created when subjected to a huge amount of pressure, Boy and Nicole just prepared and polished her thoughts to be concise and impactful. Like what Nicole always say, IT WAS ALL CATRIONA.

Catriona is such a well-read, very principled and a very deep person even before pageantry has taken over her life. SHE IS IN A LEAGUE OF HER OWN. The next Miss Universe Philippines has a big shoe to fill.

The Bottomline interview is the video I recommend to all them bashers who say Cat's final answer was rehearsed because she "knew the question beforehand". If ever there was anyone doubting the fact that this girl answers circles around every other girl in the competition, this oughta shut them up.

Agree. Was one of the panelists in this episode and the questions were thrown at her on the spot. Catriona is really articulate and intelligent. In addition to that, she studies, analyzes and gets herself involved in her advocacies that’s why she can be the best representative to talk about issues on education and hiv/aids.

Boy Abunda has a Masters in Communication Arts, so he used solid theories to back up his suggestions for Catriona. This is why it makes actual sense and is useful in public speaking. This rapid fire Q & A is what training camps in the Philippines use to practice candidates for pageants. It helps that English is 'almost' the country's prime language. Believe me, Filipinos will be riding the high of this win and will keep asking you to react. Not just about pageants but more Filipino-related stuff. Hope the delivery goes well. 😀

@Don Mega The thing is Filipinos are _mostly_ good at English. Sure, we are not the most fluent English speakers you will ever meet; a lot of mispronounced words and grammar lapses, I'm sure; but the fact that almost all of us has never lived in an English-speaking country before but can still speak decent English is something. We still *can* communicate with y'all, broken English is _still_ English anyway.

You could start training Miss Canada candidates usingbBoy Abunda's methods. He helped train Pia and Catriona. And look at the results. Miss Universe 2015 and 2018 respectively.

So you now know why Philippines is so competitive when it comes to pageants. Boy Abunda is one of those few of the best people invited by local beauty camps to train their candidates. FYI: if you have seen the end of this interview Boy Abunda told Catriona that they usually hold interviews in a different studio but the studio that they're in, is the same studio where Pia Wurtzbach had her send off interview in 2015. Pia was the last beauty queen who was interviewed in that studio.

Love watching this reaction. Yes, Tito Boy is the Philippines’ King of Talk. Glad you found him. I got goose bumps when he asked this “I am Catriona Gray, and...” This was exactly the same line he asked Pia Wurtzbach before competing Miss Universe and won.

Mr. Boy Abunda is a great host and public speaking coach. He is actually one of the people being tapped by Binibining Pilipinas (The owner of MU Ph franchise) to coach our Queens. He handled them all. He is considered as Asia's King of Talk.

I go around telling people that The Bottomline interview helped Catriona so much, cuz some think Catriona's intelligence alone made her win the crown, and I disagree. That interview helped her a lot and it all reflected in her answers in Miss Universe. The shorter the answer the better technique Boy Abunda taught reflected in her Marijuana answer. Boy Abunda helped her a lot, and of course with more QnA trainings she just got better, but if these The Bottomline interview didn't happen, I guessed Cat will go around answering questions and taking too much time telling it, cuz she has a lot of things to say, but Boy Abunda sum it up for her that longer answer isn't always the better one, and I'm glad Cat reflected on it. So I guess, yall other people stop discrediting Boy Abunda, cuz he helped Cat a lot.

By the way, her QandA mentor is Ms Nicole Cordovez that's why she's good and smooth in answering questions. Nicole Cordovez is very good at it no wonder why she was picked by Catriona as one of her team and a Q&A trainor. Yes' Tito Boy helped her to be more open about reality and happenings nowadays, and gave her also techniques but that was only during the guesting in Bottomline,. but the rests is Nicole's job enhancing more Catriona 😘

yeah i think most people are aware that Tito Boy Abunda was one of Cat's mentors in Q and A. and I will not be surprised if and only if Cat requested such setting for an interview, which became like a final Q and A training for her before she flies to Miss Universe in Bangkok during that time.

This is part of the reason why the Philippines has become a pageant powerhouse. Boy Abunda as a member of the LGBTQ community, is not only fan but a (public speaking) trainer of Filipina beauty queens. As Catriona has mentioned, she has transgender friends who most likely helped her with wardrobe, make-up, etc. in preparing for Miss World then Binibining Pilipinas and Miss Universe. As you can see from the Bottomline show, many of the guys who asked questions are actually gay men. One can actually say that the Philippines has become a beauty pageant powerhouse because of (the creativity and skills of) gay men and transgender women in the country.

Very good points! I actually think this is why sometimes it's helpful to have an interpreter even if you know English. When contestants use an interpreter, they have to pause every 2-3 sentences and I think it helps them get the audience more engaged and also helps give them a few more seconds to formulate their responses.

Hope you can see Teresita Marquez, she's also a Filipina beauty queen. She won the Reina Hispana Americana last 2017. A lot of people stated that she can be a strong contender for Miss Universe 2019 but of course she needs to join again the Binibining Pilipinas. Based on the rules even if she won an international contest she can still join Miss Universe if given a chance.

@@iris089 Oh yeah. She was Reina HispanoAmericana already. So she is not allowed because she already had a crown/title. If we are aiming for a back to back victory, Kelsey Merritt could very well give that to us. Especially if she is handled by Catriona's team.

Miss U 2012 where Janine Tugunon and Olivia Culpo battled for the crown. We were expecting Janine to win but sadly USA won the crown. That's one also of the most controversial win since all the host country of the respective pageants crowned their own delegates

Yes janine’s answer was great but judges take consideration of the overall performance, beauty & character of a person. Plus during the Trump era, Trump always have a say in the overall decision for sure. Having said all that, Olivia was way more beautiful than Janine & has a more likeable personality. I don’t even know why Janine won Miss Philippines. She’s not that beautiful & has a weird body shape & she seemed so rehearsed in her answers & the way she carried herself. I wasn’t actually expecting her to even make the top 15. So for her to reach 1st runner up is a pleasant surprise. We can’t judge Olivia just because of her final answer because it wasn’t a wrong answer after all. Janine just had a better answer but Olivia gave an honest spontaneous casual answer. And at that moment, she showed her true personality. Personally, I would have picked Australia that year as winner or Venezuela, if she hadn’t mess up in the final answer which was really obvious.

What is great about Cat is that she was able to make mental notes of what tito Boy said and applied it to her q&a in miss universe. She was able to take the criticisms and use them which I think is beyond an ability to think and answer a question quickly

That was part of her training which is to go to different talk shows and respond to questions. Every preparation she made her the best ever MU. I believe she was definitely the most ready out of everyone.
