I've had many cats and the only time a cat has been defensive like that was when we took in a cat whose owner had passed away. She had been with that lady for years, so being taken from her home and put into ours was very stressful. She didn't know us, so it's understandable. But once she realized we weren't gonna hurt her she relaxed. Shame she kept jumping out the window, after the third jump we just decided to let her be wild and free.

I had a rescue cat and she wasn't like this at all. Her previous owners may have been abusive and did try to put her asleep for having a UTI. I would sneeze, cough, laugh or stretch and she would run. However, we got close and she was my baby...until she died 2 years later. I still miss her.

You can't be treating cats the same way as dogs. People gotta understand. They're literally built different. In the food chain, dogs are top predators and are breed to be different from wild wolves. There is little to no evolutionary difference between a feral and domestic cat. Cats in the food chain are also in the middle and are going to choose fleeing or violence to defend themselves if they feel anxious. They are not dogs. They won't give you the benefit of the doubt. People need to learn respect. Cats have their own body language and behavior. A cat that doesn't want to be touched DOESN'T WANT TO BE TOUCHED. A dog can be disrespected all day and eventually, one day, it will snap. A cat will let you know quick not to mess with them.

You can't really "own" a cat, a cat can simply walk away and do what it likes, cats adapt to you, your family, its surroundings etc and if it doesn't like it, it will just do what it likes whether that's attack, run away or whatever. But cat's aren't evil monsters that just attack unprovoked lmao, they're just very independent and still behave as though they are on their own, hunting, surviving etc so most of the time when a cat is swatting at you or trying to hit you it's because it sees a moving object and a cats brain tells it to automatically attack a moving threat, plus they have awful close up vision so if you get too close into their personal space they won't really recognise you and think again, you're a threat

Now I know this isn’t always the case because sometimes cats are just nasty for no reason. But in certain instances if the cat is continuously going after just one person angrily and wanting to attack , then the owner needs to start asking that person if they’ve done anything to the cat that would provoke that kind of response.

Cats are usually only mean if you mistreat them in some way. They, more so than us, are very aware of the dominance hierarchy, and if you mistreat them, they will dominate you unless you dominate them and tell them what their place is in the hierarchy. If a cat attacks you, you've wronged it-- or it might just be high on catnip like the stairs cat (and mistreatment to boot, I think).

Cats can read energy and not just your energy but the energy that surrounds you. Egyptians believed that they could see into other dimensions and were essentially guardians to gateways of other worlds. I think that's why some people are inexplicably freaked out by cats for no apparent reason- they are attached to the metaphysical. Also- a lot of people are just bad pet owners trying to assert power and dominance over an animal that demands respect. If you have a cat, you understand (or should understand) that ownership doesn't really exist in that relationship. They appreciate your presence and will love and protect you but it's not in their nature to be controlled.
