Lemons aren't poisonous for cats but kitties do hate the smell of citrus oil! That's why a lot of cat-repellant sprays (for discouraging scratching and so on) are citrus-scented.

I just ordered some fish & chips and was squeezing lemons onto the fish while my cat Muffin watched intently. When I was done, I reached out my lemon-juice covered fingers for her to smell, thinking "who doesn't like the smell of lemon?" Well, Muffin turned and bolted as if she smelled the presence of the Devil himself. These cats barely reacted to the lemon at all, but lemme tell you, Muffin HATES lemons.

Fun fact! Cats and Dogs usually abhor the scent of any kind of citrus fruit. Licking it won't hurt them, but I'm not sure what'd happen if they ate them.

This is why it's a good trick to rub lemon on cables etc that you don't want your cat the chew

My cat doesn't hate lemons. It absolutely despises them! Whenever I buy/bring back any lemons, my cat senses a disturbance in the force and goes into search and destroy mode. Once, she carried my bag of four lemons onto the middle of the road, then climbed onto the fence to watch it get run over by cars again and again until she was satisfied. She wouldn't even leave her perch for her favourite treat.

I had a cat who was obsessed by the scent of lemon - food or cosmetic. When I used Wella Lemon shampoo she would sleep in my hair. If I made lemon jelly she sat by the fridge waiting.

I love cats ( i have many) and they all hate citrus. Its actually good thing to have in a spray bottle in case the cats jump on tables, furniture that you dont want them on.

The odor of almost any citrus fruit is very unpleasant to cats (and also dogs!) so I spray my Christmas tree with it. Also, citrus contains a chemical derived as citronella that is useful in repelling bugs. Used citrus air freshener when my house got full of fleas in the summer and it repelled and suffocated lots of fleas! We still had to use traps of course.

At least for the most part, the cats in this video only appear to be indifferent to lemons. I saw no hatred of lemons.

I saw a bulldog lick a lemon once, he went absolutely bonkers, jumping around and running in circles for a couple of minutes, he calmed down after that though.

Cat's are low maintenance and allow plenty of room and time for a life. I have 4 cats (used to have more), and all-told they barely take but a couple hours out of my day to feed them and give them affection.

One time I was putting on Tiger Balm (camphor & menthol) after I pulled a muscle while on my couch. My cat comes in eager to be brushed as I had gotten home moments ago. He jumps up and gets close to my fingers with some balm left on them... Took off at Mach 3! Poor kitty, too strong to smell. He was and purring later with me once I washed up.
