im not positive but it looks like he ate a grub worm or meal worm from the soft spot in the bark/first raw layer of tree

Why is the cat making those chirping noises? Why is it eating/biting tree bark? Why did it go up the tree?

He climbed the tree to get the squirrel. Cats are predators, and the squirrel is prey. Plus, cats climb trees all the time. They can survey their territory, or just take a nap.
