Cats have a special place in our country. Back when i was a conscript, we even had cats in our base and they'd visit us at guard posts 😅 Night watches were usually done alone for 4 hours but thanks to them i'd never feel alone.

I went to Istanbul 3 times, i always love seeing how the cats are all well fed and taken care of. Not a single person tries to shoo them away from a store or mistreat them. And they're all so friendly and don't try to run away when you pet them. They know they're safe :) I wish it was like this everywhere

It's my understanding that street cats in Turkey are really well taken care of. If that cat isn't already owned by someone who works at or owns the bookstore, it might be a street cat. He looks pretty well fed. They put food everywhere on the streets for the cats and they're allowed to go in and out of shops, etcetera, so it's very possible that he would not appreciate someone locking him in their house.

I was in turkey a few weeks ago. They really do treat animals so kindly. Each of those “strays” are sponsored by the government and are taken to the vet periodically for health checks and vaccinations. Locals also feed them dog/cat food. They treat the animals kindly so they aren’t afraid of people. They just live among the community. ❤

They do adopt them just not into their homes. the cats in Istanbul are well fed and cared for the vets even take in ill cats treat them and if possible get them homes if not they are spayed or neutered and returned to their colonies.@@findpurpose6300

As a Turk,🇹🇷 I think we have a very special bond with cats. I always carry a bottle of formula in my bag. So I feed every cat I come across. I build houses for them so they don't get cold. They are all like my children.🥰

That is the NORM in Turkey. I lived in Izmir. At first I was saddened by all of the strays. Then I witnessed the respect and care the humans have for them. They looked healthy. They didn’t seem afraid of strangers. Shop owners allowed dogs and cats inside when the weather became inclement. Dogs and cats even live within the ancient ruins peacefully. It’s beautiful to witness.

In some rare cases, they do. But sooo rare. It happened around my house 2 times in 10 years. Mostly cats chase dogs 😂

I lived in Istanbul for two years. I was so astonished to see how the Turkish people collectively take care of the cats and dogs on the streets. Here in the US, stray dogs and cats are mistreated, beaten and killed 😢 Thank you Turkish people for being so kind ❤️

Umm…while abuses do happen in the US, I wouldn’t say that stray animals are routinely abused by people on the street. Though they are overlooked and especially in comparison to cats in Turkey 😢

Mother Ezgi my Episcopalian priest is from Turkey and at one point she either couldn't go back home to visit her family or she couldn't come back here to Wisconsin where she lives because of what what going on with the Turkish Government

they love cats in turkey. they feed them fish and stores always have water bowls out for them. it's not unusual to walk into a store and see a couple cats hanging around 😊

You want to see strays literally killing each other for scraps they get out of the garbage, no veterinary care, folks smacking them with grooms to get away, begging for your food while you eat at an outdoor restaurant. Flea ridden, open wounds, eye infections. Sleeping in the streets on vents to get warmth. Begging for attention and love. Yea, people with hearts put out food and water for the poor cat colonies. It's literally the only place in the world I have desire to visit. We can't travel because we're tending to many cats where we are but if I ever get the opportunity It's the one place I'd go. Even though I absolutely despise air travel and traveling isn't my thing Istanbul looks amazing!
