Because I have respected your commitment to The Word of God, and have been watching your reviews (how can you go wrong when your feel as if the Thompson Chain Link Study Bible is the best study Bible!) I decided to violate my policy of not leaving comments on KZfaq. There are two points for clarification: (1) The (Roman) Catholic Church is not the same thing as the (Greek) Orthodox Church. This Bible is done by the Orthodox Church. Pages XXI through XXVII in the introduction explain the differences between the two churches. (2) The Old Testament is the English translation of the Greek Septuagint (LXX). The Septuagint was the (Old Testament) translated from the Hebrew into Greek in Alexandria by seventy scholars in the 3rd century before Jesus. Most of the Old Testament quotes in the New Testament are from the Septuagint rather than from the Masoretic version. This Bible is unique because it is the Septuagint translated from the Greek by Orthodox Greek speaking scholars into modern English. Every time I think you have covered all the possible things to say about Bibles and the importance of God’s Word you come up with something new. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into creatively sharing the Word of God.

This exact Bible and the New Believers Bible, in the NLT, edited by Pastor Greg Laurie, are the two main Bibles that I read every single day for my Bible study. There is so much information in this Bible. It is a MUST if you're a new Believer. I highly recommend this glorious Bible. Peace and Blessings.

It's not a Roman Catholic but an Eastern Orthodox Church Bible. A difference. The "pictures" are Icons.

Wonderful!! I’ve been wanting to see this Bible. I’m thinking about purchasing it. 😄 It’s an orthodox Christian Bible. Technically they have a few more books in the Bible than the Catholics do, but not as many as the Ethiopian Orthodox Christians do.

I didn't know now that now they are also printing The Orthodox Study Bible in the United States. From your review I can tell the quality is superior than the ones printed in China. Nice review!

Such an interesting Bible. I don't mean to sound dumb cuz I've been a Christian about all my life, but I have a question. What is the difference between a Christian and an Orthodox Christian? I am really needing to do some research on finding a Bible translated strictly from Hebrew or Greek, with none of the extra words added to help it make sense, ie: italic/slanted words in KJV Bibles. Thank you, Cat. Awesome review of what looks like another awesome Bible. Blessings!

Oh I'm still learning I didn't know and still don't. I thought Catholic Orthodox were the same but their not. So I'll try to see what I can find out too and we can discuss what we learned 👍😉😘

I'm an Orthodox Christian. We're the first, in history, to have been called Christians. During persecution, in Antioch. It was an attempt to insult by saying we were trying to be imitators of Christ, little Christs. Before that we commonly referred to ourselves as followers of 'the Way' (of Christ). We compiled, copied, codified, preserved the books of the Bible. Before that we made pictographs, now as Icons. Just as the Holy Scripture has Canon, so do the Icons. Each color and the way the shapes are created are meant to be 'read' or understood to convey particular theological concepts. They're described as 'Windows to Heaven'. Most definitely an emotional experience, evocative. Praying with them around, is said to 'represent or remind' us how we are constantly in the presence of all these Christians gone before us. They are with Christ now and pray for us.

@@gretchenisasquirrel Oh thank you so very much for enlightening me on this subject. Now I understand. And we truly are to be "little Christs", we are His here on earth to help bring others to Him. Do you recommend a particular Orthodox Christian Bible that is an original translation, i.e. similar to King James Version in what started being what most Christians read? I hope Sister Cat sees this as well & maybe now we can learn more about this with your help. This is a wonderful description of Orthodox Christianity and I appreciate you seeing our comments & helping us learn. Thank you so much for this history of Orthodox Christians. God bless you!

I thought the hardcover was a glued binding. I had to buy a leathersoft to get it smyth sown. I do believe they had an ancient faith edition hardcover that is smyth sown as well. And it comes with a ribbon marker.

I have an older version of the Orthodox Study Bible, but am saving up for this new one. With seven or eight more new pages in it, and better quality, it would be a Bible to reach for. Thanks for the review. Saying Orthodox is not Catholic is not quite right, we are the "One Holy and Apostolic Catholic Church" .... just not Roman Catholic. Second largest Church in the world. Hope you have pleasant reading. Orthodoxy is fascinating to study and read about the ancient Church.
@johnritter59513 жыл бұрын
Does the Orthodox Study Bible in your review have a sewn binding. One other reviewer says it does not. See at the 2 minute mark: (1) The Orthodox Study Bible -- An Overview and Critique - KZfaq I have been told by another source that it does.
