A CAUCASIAN man has had his jaw shaved down, along with numerous other surgeries, to look like his Korean boyband idol. Oli London first hit headlines in February 2019 after news broke that he’d spent over £75,000 on surgeries to look like K-pop star, Jimin from Korean boyband BTS. In June 2019 Oli went back to Korea to have more surgery done on his face. The 29-year-old had a total of five surgeries with Dr Yun Chang Woon at View Plastic Surgery assisted by Medictel Korea; rhinoplasty, alarplasty, mandible angle reduction (v line jaw surgery), zygoma reduction (cheek bone reduction), and genioplasty with T osteotomy (chin contouring). He has now had over 15 surgeries and has spent an estimated £125,000 to acheive his dream look.

As a Korean person, I find this very insulting to our culture and natural Asian physical appearance. He's gone too far. It's absolutely okay to love K-Pop, Jimin, and the Korean culture, but the fact he says 'I identify as Korean' shocks me both in anger and hurt. First of all, I think now his face is insulting the Korean physical features, and he cannot just "identify" as Korean. I don't believe that's how it works. It is fine to change your gender or anything that affects you personally, but he is insulting a whole race! Identification is a very serious thing, and I feel as if he is taking this as a joke. It's fine to get plastic surgery because that's your business, but it's NOT fine to suddenly identify as a specific race, (which is both insulting to the culture and people) and believe that you're Korean. Being Korean is more than just looks!

Yes, that's true and valid. But also, identification as another gender is different in many ways. The main reason I'm offended is because he really only wants to be Korean because he likes K-pop, and there is so much more to being Korean than it's singers. I feel like it would be a different story if he moved to Korea and learned the language and lived the lifestyle and culture then MAYBE I would be okay with the "I identify as. . . " statement. . . . But I feel like you'd have to grow up in a culture for that to really happen. Or move your whole life there with no intention of leaving, and having a sense of acceptance and community. Like how many immigrants identify as American or Canadian or whatever country they move to after a while. . . . But they don't reject their previous cultural identity in the process and identifying with the culture goes way deeper than just liking superficial elements of it.

I think he looked great before the surgery. After, well, I gasped. I feel really badly for him. I don’t think he realizes that he’s ruining his beauty and completely changing how people perceive him. I know looks aren’t everything, but when it’s all you focus on, it can bring you down. I hope he’s able to find hope and inspiration in other parts of his life as well. Nothing but love to him.
