Mungo Jerry is the name of the group. The name was adapted from a collection of poems by T.S. Eliot called "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats". One of the poems is entitled "Mungojerrie and Rumpleteaser" - The Broadway musical "Cats" is based on the same T.S. Eliot work. Just thought you'd like to know, so there you go. @@johnbolin3325 it's a cover of a song written and performed by Henry Thomas, released in 1928 or 1929. it was considered dixie jazz bc "dixie" referred to the type of more risqué and real lyrics and subject matter of southern jazz and ragtime at that time, which continued to evolve into delta blues. Henry Thomas is one for the books, I highly recommend him if you're into dixie jazz or even just delta blues in general.

As an....older person, I can tell you that there wasn't any laws about drinking and driving. Yes, it's a just common sense but a lot of people drank and got behind the wheel. But this was a great summer song.

You got a intuition, dude... if it led you to this. Well done. Carry on. Also, about a year ago, Ray Dorset was doing some videos, playing some songs, during the lockdown on the Mungo Jerry channel. Probably not reaction material, but the guy is totally chill and he still got it.

I wouldn't say Elvis' sideburns were ever big enough to be called mutton chops. John Lennon had mutton chops in the Beatles' Hey Bulldog video.

I was 13 years old in 1970. Listening to this on my 9V Transistor Radio tuned to WOKY AM Radio Milwaukee (we didn't have FM stations yet). Best summer memories. The song of my childhood! (This and Hot Fun in the Summertime by Sly & the Family Stone) Hope you are well, Leo!

This one reminds of being 4 or 5, listening to the 45 (and even 78 rpm!!) records I had inherited from my father, who died just before I was born. Even though I never met him I felt I knew him through his drawings, photos and records collection which went from classical music to blues, 50's rock & roll, mambo, jazz, 60s pop/rock and more. This was a fav of mine back then. :)
