She was confident from the first interview in longer videos of this audition. She stated that she was going to make the audience rock and she sure did. She was well prepared from singing in her home town area and easily knew the song. She is now worth millions of dollars, she has met the queen even thought she did not win, and she has traveled the world to perform. She is not dumb, after being on BGT she was invited to the W.H. by Obama and she wisely turned him down. Good for her.

Simon, in later years, publicly told Susan that she saved the Britain’s Got Talent show. He thanked her and she was emotionally stunned! She was a shooting star to stardom. Everything she released was a tremendous success. The public loved her as a person as well as her sensational voice, still do. She’s had a rocky road with fame. She enjoys singing for people but the travel, public appearances and grueling schedules that come with putting out new music can be overwhelming for her. She is simply extraordinary!💖

I wasn`t cynical at all when I saw her for the first time. All that went through my mind was: "Gosh, This Woman is incredibly courageous. And the people in the audience should be ashamed of themselves!" I admit that I wasn`t expecting this high level of talent and quality but I wasn`t expecting a bad performance. When she started singing I was in awe and so happy for her. When she finished, tears were running down my cheeks. No matter what the audience thought in the beginning, in the end, everybody was cheering and clapping. The reaction of many of those people (certainly not everybody), teaches us, that the majority have very low self-esteem. They thought "I look better than her but I wouldn`t step out in front of the audience. Looking like her? I`d rather drop dead! She probably sings as shabby as she looks." She has had a tough life and she is one of the sweetest souls on this planet! And aren`t we all glad that she proved everybody wrong :)))

A close male friend told me to watch this. He was a friend for almost 50 yrs. (he has since died. He called me to watch the replay on the internet the night of this audition. I said, "I've seen so many great singers on TV and in concert." He told me this was very different and special, because of the audience and judges reactions. He told me I would be blown away; well it was beyond that, I cried so hard. I fell in love with Susan along with millions around the world. She has conquered Simon's heart (he was known for being mean) but she melted all that meaness away. Well I guess everyone knows she became a a big star hours after this audition on Britain's Got Talent. I am so happy for her. I wish my dear friend had lived to see what she is up to now. I didn't even know she released a new record last year I think it was. I'm going to listen to her new songs. she and I love a lot of the same songs.

@@hooleyqueen Simon is not mean. I used to think so too, but there's a toasted marshmallow under that brusque exterior. He's a pushover for a puppy. We've seen him break down in tears and be unable to speak when a performance reminds him of a personal loss. Simon is near flawlessly spot on and very honest and the truth can hurt. What is mean is letting people harbor a false illusion, particularly when they don't possess the necessary talent. Better they should crash and burn up front then find out the hard way later.

Well I think the editing though made it seem like the audience was more cynical than it actually was. Often reactions of audience members do not happen at the time they do on the show's final broadcast. Others have talked about how they will often completely change the appearance of how things actually went down on such shows. But hey, it sure did turn her life around, so for Susan it was not negative. But others really got screwed over by being shown in a very negative light that was untrue.

Susan has had a substantial recording career now. There are numerous other, more recent, videos of Susan, including one of her doing a splendid cover of the Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses" and one of her duetting with Elaine Paige, the theatre singer she says she wants to be like in the audition you've just reacted to. Beautiful to see. She didn't win BGT that year (2009) but she did finish second, and runners-up often have more enduring success than champs do on those shows...Susan has four or five albums now to show for her gutsy star turn in that first audition.

Not only did she not win, but it is SIMON who signed her to a recording & performance contract! You know that man won't sign just anybody. He wanted to be sure that whoever she signed with would not exploit her, but would give her a FAIR contract with REAL money & would actually help her learn how to be a performer & star. Lots of mentoring & tutoring.

It seems that a lot of the successful contestants from these shows came in second. Jonathan and Charlotte, also on Britain's Got Talent came in second to a dog act. On America's Got Talent probably their most successful one was Jackie Evancho. She came in second and she was only 10 at the time. She's gone on to eight gold and platinum albums, PBS specials performances for presidents and royalty all over the world. It would seem that the producers of the shows recognize that these people will have successful careers ahead of them and let others win where this will be their only success.

She did not win, but she did not have to; she conquered the world with that song. Imagine millions of people watched that performance live. She became an overnight sensation and huge star. I hope he will follow up to see how she looked after her makeover and recording contract. She has done a lot of traveling and has platinum records. She is enjoying her fame but has not really changed much except everywhere she goes her fans recognize her and ask for autographs. She is less lonely with her new aquaintences, but she still lives in the small home she once shared with her parents and seven siblings! I just love her, and so do millions of others. She certainly melted Simon's cold heart. He became her manager for a while, and he has changed so much since this audition. He got married and is a father now!

Susan Boyle became one of my favorite singers of all time after this performance, and she didn’t win the show, but she did win the music business , becoming a million selling artist who in my opinion belongs up there with the best singers in music history, Aretha , Celine, Barbara, Mary J, Whitney, Dolly and others. If you don’t believe me listen to any song from any album from Susan Boyle. And I would recommend starting with the recorded version of this song “ I Dreamed A Dream” from her first album. Though I love each and every track from each album, I wonder how much more music we would have from her if God would have had her discovered in the 90’s, or even the 80’s when she ( and I ) was young.
